Phone number ☎️ 08008830086 👆 is reported as a number frequently linked to scams impersonating utility companies, particularly E.ON, targeting customers with automated calls and texts about alleged unpaid energy bills. Many recipients report the calls use personal details, urging urgent payment via suspicious websites or phone lines not officially associated with E.ON. While some claim the number is genuine and part of debt recovery processes, numerous contacts to official E.ON customer service deny involvement, warning of potential fraud. Victims advised to avoid engaging, never provide payment or personal info via this number, and verify any outstanding debts directly through official bill contacts. Concerns include misuse of data, potential insider leaks, and deceptive tactics exploiting customers, especially the elderly. Exercise caution and report suspicious activity to appropriate authorities.

Guy Stevens from Newhaven, Brighton was heading up the bunch who were calling people with dimenture, trying to con them. I was there when he even dared call someone a Pa###;;i right down the phone! How on earth have he and Ash David managed to get away with their dodgy dealings for ages? It’s wild!

This ain’t Eon, they’re just trying to throw Action Fraud off their trail. The real scam is run by the TAX RECOVERY BUREAU, set up in Brighton. They mainly go after older and disabled people to swipe bank info. By the way, your boss SEAN spilled the beans like a proper canary.

Honestly, I was a bit sceptical at first but found out the text from EON is actually legit. Saw an article on Coventry Telegraph that cleared things up, so it’s not some scam like I thought. If you get a message from them, it’s probably the real deal.

This is totally not EOn, it’s just a scam. Don’t bother answering these calls or texts. If you really do owe EOn, get in touch with them using the number printed on your actual bill. The scammers always say they’re EOn to trick you, but it’s all fake.
8 years
Yeah, it has to be EON. When those constant calls and texts about payment began, I reached out to them myself. They told me it’s because my account is just a standard one, no fancy deal or anything, so I’ve got to pay straight away. Dealing with them has always been a nightmare... I didn’t choose to stick with them, and honestly, they’ve only gotten worse. Trying to find any kindness or proper customer service with them? Forget it. It’s all just “pay up, right now” with no room for anything else.

Yep, it’s definitely Eon, ringing about the account. I asked someone at the call centre to be sure.

Got a message earlier today claiming to be from Eon, saying something like “you haven’t paid for your energy usage” and then giving a website and a number 0800 883 0086. Thing is, I don’t even have an account with Eon, so no idea what this is about. After seeing that, I’m pretty sure it’s just a massive SCAM. Honestly, it just makes me feel really disheartened about people these days.

I reckon this is a bit of a scam, not quite sure how they get hold of your number though. I think maybe it’s something to do with your phone getting tapped when you’re on a call that goes on longer than usual. When I sorted out the issue with the service I called about, the problem was fixed. Feels like it could even be someone dodgy working inside the company doing this?

Automated message: If you happen to be the occupier, kindly press 1. If you aren’t the occupier, please hit 2. What on earth is an occupier? Occupy what, exactly? Honestly, whether you select 1 or 2, I reckon they could have posed some more challenging questions. And isn’t it just typical? They don’t bother to reveal their location or who’s making the call!

I went through the same thing. I was a bit too trusting and ended up paying, then had that sudden realisation it might be a scam, so I quickly cancelled my card. I rang customer support but they didn’t recognise the number, though they insisted the payment was valid since the bill was cleared. Around the same time, I got a text that Eon Customer Service later confirmed was definitely a scam. My best guess is that someone’s been leaking info, and the scam works by paying the bill you were already going to pay, making it seem genuine. At the same time it’s a sneaky way to check if the card works and is active, catching you off guard.

Just got a call from this number, hung up, called 1471 to find the number, then rang E on. I’d recently settled a bill and wanted to confirm the payment had cleared. They told me there wasn’t any money owed and said “don’t stress about the call”. I told the person on the phone the number that had called me but she didn’t really care that I’d been contacted by a different company about their bill.

Got a message saying they were ‘acting on behalf of EON’ about some supposed debt. They never gave any info about the actual energy bills or usage. The text felt quite pushy and a bit intimidating. The website they sent me to, m.eonpay[###], doesn’t look official at all. Turns out it’s registered to some bloke called David Roger Pugh from Hale or Altrincham. Definitely seems dodgy to me.

Building on what's already been said, I’m worried someone’s got hold of our info (maybe from an Eon breach or something), sorts your bill so you reckon everything’s alright (and to check the card’s legit), then hangs back a bit before doing some dodgy stuff. Heard about scams like this before, so best to call the proper number on their official site. Despite what some folks say here, Eon customer service made it clear they don’t deal with any third party, which makes me think those green or safe claims mentioned earlier are a bit suspect.

I stupidly paid my bill through this number, then called Eon directly who confirmed the amount was right and had been settled. But when I asked Eon’s support about the number, they said they had no record of it, though they said it was ‘probably’ genuine since the bill’s been sorted - which honestly doesn’t make me feel any better. Then, the very next day, my partner got a text from ‘Eon’ asking for payment again, and Eon support confirmed that number was definitely a scam. Too fishy for me, so I’ve blocked my card now. Best to avoid.

Really wish I didnt check this site first. This number called me (turns out it's Eon Energy) about my account. The call was legit, but it took some effort and time to get them to prove it was real. So, not a scam, it's an honest call.

Had a similar experience. Got a missed call on my landline from “Eon” on 19 January 2018, then they left a free callback number. Later that evening, at about 7:56pm, they sent a text with a link: [#] m.eonpay[###]/9as2 and repeated the phone number. We just ignored it for two reasons: first, the link was HTTP not HTTPS, which seemed fishy. Second, the website basically wanted us to enter bank details to clear a supposed debt. No chance! This felt like harassment - calling twice in a day, and it’s clearly a scam trying to phish for bank info. Very dodgy.

Had the same experience. Got a call from "Eon" on my landline on 19th January 2018 with a freephone number. It felt like pure harassment. Later that evening, they sent a text at 19:56 with a link [#] m.eonpay[###]/9as2 and repeated the phone number. We just ignored it for two reasons: the website starts with http not https, and it’s asking for bank details to clear some supposed "debt." Absolutely no chance we’d give that info! It's really annoying getting phoned twice in one day and could be pretty risky too.

Got one of those robo calls saying I owe money to "Eon." A lot of folks reckon it must be legit because of unpaid bills. Thing is, I've never dealt with Eon before and I use a prepay meter for my utilities, so yeah, this smells like a total scam, big time. Stay alert everyone!

I got a call from this number and it was some kind of robot saying ‘I have an important message for (my full name)’. Then it asked me to enter my postcode, and I waited - sometimes if the bot can’t understand you, a real person takes over - but this time nothing happened. It just told me to ring them back on another number (which I forgot to note down) to begin the process again. That’s when I pasted the number into Google and ended up writing this. If a firm really wants money you owe, surely a real person would call you, not some automated message.

Spam alert! I'm gettin loads of texts and voicemail messages claiming I owe money to EON. I honestly don't owe them a penny. I've never even been a customer of theirs, and every energy company I've dealt with has actually owed me cash when I switched, cause paying by direct debit usually means you overpay a bit. Stay clear of this!

Claimed to be from E-On about an overdue bill. I sent an email straight to the CEO but never got any response.

(Dec 2017) This number kept ringing and left messages, both calls and texts, which I found quite suspicious. When I called E-On using their official line, 0345 052 0000, the people I spoke to seemed unaware of this number. Eventually, I was transferred to another department who confirmed that 0800 883 0086 is a robot caller E-On are testing to chase unpaid bills. Still, it felt dodgy to me. I’m not about to give my card details to anyone who phones me out of the blue, even if it apparently is legit. What annoyed me was that I never got the original bill or any reminder before that call hit my phone. Plus, the text message they sent looked sketchier than most spam I’ve seen, so it certainly didn’t help with trust! My advice? Don’t make payments to the automated caller. Call E-On on the number printed on your bill and sort it out for real. Safer that way.

BEWARE - THIS ISN'T EON! They called saying we owed £276 and even mentioned our account name, which was a red flag. They wanted me to pay over the phone by card and had this “hold” button so you can grab your card quickly - quite sneaky. I felt really iffy about it and ended the call straight away. Checked with my husband afterwards, and we're definitely up to date with payments. It’s pretty upsetting they had our details; if I hadn’t been cautious, it would’ve sounded legit enough to fall for.

Got a call earlier saying I owe £50 on a bill and they knew my full name. It's pretty unsettling how they managed to get that info.

I got a voicemail on my mobile, which I hardly use except for chatting with family or mates. The caller used my full name and claimed to be from Eon Energy, saying there was an issue with my account - which isn’t correct at all. They asked me to ring the number they left. Feeling a bit iffy about it, I didn’t bother calling back and just looked the number up on Google instead. Turns out, it’s a pretty common scam. I contacted Eon directly and informed them, and they said they’re looking into the matter now.

Got four calls and a couple of texts on Monday and Thursday, both right on the dot, saying I owe Eon money. Totally wrong details too, first email was something like [#]m.eonpay[###]/3b2n then another different one [#]m.eonpay[###]/3psw. Just ignoring everything, seems dodgy.

Got a robo call on my home phone telling me to press 1 or 2 to verify who I am - I ignored it. Said it was from EON, but reckon it’s just a scam. Don’t bother answering or calling them back. They already have our details like names and numbers.

Yep, it’s E.ON calling. They use some outside company to ring or email you if you owe money or just paid a bill. If you’re getting these calls, it’s most likely because your account is behind or has recently been settled. That's how the system knows all your info.

Totally a rip-off! I rang Eon to find out how these dodgy folks had our account deets, number and phone, right? They kept me waiting forever on the line, which started draining my credit, just to admit they had no clue where the info came from. Feels like maybe an insider with access leaked it or worse, Eon might be flogging our private stuff!

My mum got this recorded message left on her voicemail, claiming to be from Seven & Trent Water. They were asking for a payment of more than £100 straight away and gave a phone number to ring back to sort it out. Mum double-checked with the actual water company since she did have a question with them recently, but they said it wasn’t from them at all! Definitely a scam, and it makes me think someone’s selling personal info. Maybe they’re trying to move on from Eon, cos everyone’s getting wary now.

Keep getting annoying texts with a link that wants your card info straight away. Eon normally calls from numbers starting with 0345 or 0333. Weird thing is, I can’t put the number on my spam list, but that might be a separate problem.

I got a call and a message from someone saying they were from eon, but I've never had anything to do with them. They called my work phone, which I don't ever use for bills or anything. Definitely a scam. They kept ringing me loads of times.

TOTALLY a scam, and they’re clever enough to put up fake nice reviews here. I reckon someone’s selling personal info, coz how else would they know we’re Eon customers and when bills gotta be paid?? It’s not just random calls for sure!!!

I got a robotic message from E.ON sayin I owed money for my energy usage. The text said "please visit [#]gsys.io/68wdy" or ring the number listed above. They even left a voicemail on my landline urging me to get in touch with E.ON urgently about my unpaid account.

This number called me on the evening of 5th Oct. I nearly called back like they asked but decided to look it up on unknownphone first. Good thing I did, as it's clearly some kind of scam. They were asking for my bank info?? Yeah, right! Since it was an 0800 number I was almost tricked into thinking it was legit.

Beware, it's definitely a scam! I got a robo call saying I supposedly owed £50 on my account. I knew this couldn't be right since I got my bill the day before and it was even more than that. I rang them to check and they said they haven’t had any calls from EON. Trust no one!

This has got to be a TOTAL SCAM - anyone saying otherwise is clearly nuts! I’ve been getting these for like 3 weeks now, both texts and voicemails - all from some automated woman’s voice. So I checked my account and, just like I suspected, I don’t owe EON a penny. The message even includes an email that’s not linked to any EON domain. Honestly, steer well clear of this, it’s dodgy, dodgy, dodgy!

It's really strange - I got money put back into my account for a payment I’d made. I rang up Eon, and they had no clue about any system that contacts customers like this. They did mention maybe their collections team is testing something, but honestly, they weren’t certain either. Completely baffling! Feels like it might be time for a change. I’ve gone ahead and blocked my bank card just to be safe. Honestly, better to play it safe and ring the 0345 number that's on your bill to pay up. Either what’s happening is legit or some sort of clever hack from a modern day Robin Hood!

This number keeps ringing and texting me every day, some of the messages even coming late at night like around 7 to 9pm. I doubt EON would be calling you at such hours. The address they text you looks dodgy too, definitely a scam. Best to avoid it completely, they just want your cash. Honestly, it’s really annoying and it’s about time people put a stop to it.

Got a call at work earlier but missed it. They left a voicemail saying I needed to call Eon straight away. Later on, I got a text from “Eon” saying I owe money on my last bill, which isn’t true at all - they actually owe me some cash. Pretty sure it’s a scam, so I’ve blocked the number. This one’s quite clever compared to others going around lately. Stay cautious, everyone!

Got a text this morning claiming I owed just over £200 and had to put my postcode into a link they sent. The msg also had this phone number to call. Straight away, I knew it was dodgy - no EON account number and the message sounded quite blunt, almost rude. They only wanted a postcode, which felt off since EON's never messaged me before. Plus, I'd just paid my last EON bill and my next one isn’t due yet. I’m ashamed to say I sometimes get a red bill, but they would never ask for money through texts or emails. If you end up paying through a number or link like that after reading this, don’t be surprised if you get scammed - be careful!

This has got to be a scam, no doubt about it. Eon have been told about the issue and told me they’re looking into it. It was only £14 taken from me, but it could easily have been much more. Don’t trust anyone here saying it’s legit - they’re probably part of the scheme! Eon really ought to give people their money back, it’s a total security fail on their part that let this happen.

Got a message saying my first direct debit payment to Eon was overdue, so I clicked the link in the text. It asked for my postcode, which I entered, and then it showed a balance of exactly £81.21 - the exact amount I actually owed. I went ahead and paid with my debit card. The next day I rang Eon to understand why the direct debit never went through and why I got that message. Turns out it was a scam, according to them and my bank. But how on earth did the scammers get my phone number, my Eon account, and the precise amount I owed? Feels like someone on the inside tipped them off, truly suspicious.
