Got an email that said it was from ‘BT email team’ telling me I won’t get emails anymore unless I log in at [#]bt[###]/help/email settings or ring 0800 783 0214. Seems a bit fishy to me.

I never got a call, but got an email from BT with the subject saying I wont get new emails unless I update settings. I called BT using a number I trust and they told me the email wasn’t from them and to just delete it. A week later my service was cut off and I had to contact BT again to get my account sorted out?????

Hey, just wanted to say this is REALLY IMPORTANT. If you ring 0800 783 0214, it actually does go through to BT, so in that sense it’s legit. But if you get a call from this number or any other, remember it could easily be faked (spoofed). NEVER trust a call just because the number looks familiar. If you’re not sure who it is, hang up and ring them back on a number you already know is theirs. Scammers often rely on people trusting the caller ID, it’s a tactic that’s used loads.

If you're still using Yahoo Mail and need to switch your settings over to the new BT Email servers, this is the right number to call for BT Email Help desk. When you give them a ring, you'll be connected to a representative who can guide you step-by-step through the process.

Yeah, I got the same message, something like: "Hello, this is BT. We've sent you emails before about updating your BT email settings, but it seems it hasn't been done yet. It’s really important to sort it now to keep getting your emails when we do the upgrade soon. In a few minutes, you'll get a link to a quick guide on what to do. Please check it out first. If you still need assistance, you can ring us on 0800 7830214."

Just got a message saying it’s from BT, about some email settings that need updating. They mentioned they’ve emailed before but I haven’t sorted it yet. Said it’s really important to sort it soon so I don’t miss out on emails after they upgrade my account. Seems a bit urgent, not sure if it’s legit tho.

I just got a couple of texts claiming to be from BT saying if I didn't click a link, I'd lose access to my new email. I checked with BT and they told me it definitely wasn't from them.

Got a text saying it was from BT about my email settings being wrong and if I didn’t fix it, I’d lose emails. Said to ring this number if I had problems and they’d send another message with a link to fix it. The second text arrived but the link looked really sketchy. Stay well clear of this!

I’ve been receiving emails prompting me to adjust my mail settings. Then, I also got a text message telling me a link will be sent to guide me through the updating process. The text originates from BT_SMS. I have a strong feeling this might be a fraudulent attempt to steal my information.

Got a text supposedly from BT saying they emailed me about updating my email settings. I've gone through all my BT emails from the past year and found nothing like that. The message also had a link to a 'short guide' (haven't clicked it yet). I've never had a text from BT before, only emails. Logged into my BT account and there's no alert or request for any updates. I'm just gonna delete the text and not do anything else.

Got a couple of texts claiming to be from BT saying I need to upgrade my BT Yahoo email. Looked up this website and it seems like a scam, but a few replies say it’s legit and really from BT, which just confuses me more. I reckon I’ll call BT customer service to get some proper info and figure out what to do next.

The Yahoo app, which isn’t connected to BT at all, won’t work with the BT email system anymore. If you’re using any other email apps or clients, make sure to enter the right BT email settings from this link, or else your app will stop picking up your BT emails.

I’m with BT and can say for sure this number is legit. They’re switching from Yahoo emails to a new BT system and everyone has to update their email settings. If you ring the number, they’ll tell you it’s BT or you can check by calling the 150 helpline.

Got an email from the BT Email Team saying they've upgraded my service with this number included. Wasn't sure if it was real or just some phishing scam. So I rang BT on 0800 800 150 and they said it’s legit.

Got an email that looked legit, said it was from BT. After I checked the help number in the email, I found loads of comments from folks saying it was a scam. They wanted me to delete my current email and switch to a new BT address. 100% dodgy, I’ll be letting BT know about this tomorrow.

got an e-mail early this morning (about 01.08am) from bt saying i had to update my account details. it looked pretty legit so i called bt using a number i'd saved from an old letter. a really nice guy there told me they’d never sent anything like that and asked me to send the dodgy e-mail over to their phishing team.

Following up on my message from yesterday evening. I got in touch with BT and they did a screen share, saying it looked legit but they’re not sure about the content. It’s now been sent over to their scam team for a proper check. The helpline number in the email might be dodgy. Just a heads up, be careful.

i got the same email too, and i thought it might be dodgy since it didnt use my actual name, just said “hello”. ive got a couple other addresses connected to this one (which isnt my main account anyway), and there’s no emails in those inboxes either. like the person who posted here first, i’ll be calling bt in the morning to see what’s going on.

This was supposed to be a helpdesk number. I received an email from BT saying they’re updating their email server and I need to change my settings. They gave a new website link to check emails, but both my virus software and browser flagged it as dangerous. I’ll call BT in the morning to sort this out and see what’s really going on.
