I just experienced a rather dubious pop-up and, naively, I thought it looked alright. They claimed to have detected thousands of viruses lurking on my machine. Over a lengthy 40-minute conversation, they promised to tidy everything up for me, which I assumed was complimentary. To my surprise, they then informed me it would set me back a whopping £151. They insisted they couldn't process payment over the phone, but then, as is often the case, there was a catch: they would dispatch an invoice directly to my computer, which I'd need to settle. I repeatedly explained that I couldn’t afford that amount, and after numerous attempts to extract money from me, they simply cut the call. How terribly inconsiderate! Now, I’m left feeling anxious about whether they’ve rummaged through my laptop, exposing all my personal information-like online banking details and PayPal access. What a right plonker I’ve been!

What a complete scam! I received a message on my laptop accompanied by an obnoxiously loud voice claiming that my computer was infected with a virus. An individual with an Indian accent began interrogating me about my laptop’s security measures and offered dubious advice on how to safeguard it. It was all merely a tactic to gain my trust. Then, he instructed me to go to my computer and follow his steps so he could "help" remove the supposed virus as a so-called technical expert. Naturally, I saw through their ruse and promptly declined, fully recognising this for the scam it truly was!

It appears that I've fallen victim to this dubious number as well. An alarming notification popped up on my laptop, urging me to contact them, and I, foolishly believing it to be legitimate due to some recent DVD playback issues, ended up chatting with them for over 40 minutes. Eventually, they requested payment to 'reboot' my device. I politely declined and asked if they could ring me back today, which is a Monday, and unsurprisingly, I haven’t heard a peep from them since. I’m absolutely relieved I read all your feedback; now, I'm planning to pursue a claim through my contents insurance.
