They kept at it - got a pop-up that I couldn’t close, showing the name of the mail app I had open. Ended up cutting the internet connection and shutting everything down. After running a bunch of anti-virus scans over the last few days, things seem to be back to normal now.

I just got the same kind of pop-up and thought it seemed legit at first. They went right into my computer and told me it was loaded with thousands of viruses. For nearly 40 minutes, they kept assuring me they would fix everything, which I assumed would be free. Then out of nowhere, they said it would cost me £151. They claimed they weren't allowed to take payments over the phone, but then said they'd send an invoice straight to my computer and I'd have to pay it somehow. I told them I didn’t have that kind of money, and after a few tries to make me pay, they just hung up on me - quite rude if you ask me. Now I’m really worried that they’ve accessed all my personal info on my laptop, including stuff like my online banking and PayPal accounts. Feel like such an idiot for falling for it.

Dont bother calling them. Restart your PC asap.
Some bloke got into our machine, and now we've been told to completely wipe it clean to prevent them from getting into our email, which has all our credit card info saved!

This number is definitely fake. I got a pop-up on my laptop along with a loud voice telling me my computer was infected with a virus and warning me not to make any online purchases. They urged me to call them straight away, which I did. A man with an Indian accent then started asking questions about my laptop’s security and gave me some tips on how to stay safe. It felt like he was just trying to sound trustworthy. Then he told me to follow his steps on my computer so he could ‘fix’ the virus as a tech expert. Obviously, I said no straight away because I knew for sure this was a scam and possibly a con!!!!!!

I got a sketchy alert on my laptop telling me to ring this number, seemed legit since I've been struggling with DVDs not working properly. I ended up chatting with them for over 40 minutes, then they wanted cash to fix the laptop. I declined and asked if they could ring me on Monday instead, which is today, but I haven't heard anything. Honestly, glad I found these reviews first. I'm now planning to claim on my contents insurance.

Core News, which is supposed to be a site for downloading music, ended up freezing my laptop with a bogus virus warning. The only way to get it back was to restart the whole computer. Really annoying!
