They’re at it again - encountered a persistent pop-up that wouldn’t budge, flaunting the name of my email application that was running at that moment. I disconnected from the internet and powered the device down. Thankfully, everything seems to be functioning normally now, several days down the line, following a thorough anti-virus sweep.

I just experienced a rather dubious pop-up and, naively, I thought it looked alright. They claimed to have detected thousands of viruses lurking on my machine. Over a lengthy 40-minute conversation, they promised to tidy everything up for me, which I assumed was complimentary. To my surprise, they then informed me it would set me back a whopping £151. They insisted they couldn't process payment over the phone, but then, as is often the case, there was a catch: they would dispatch an invoice directly to my computer, which I'd need to settle. I repeatedly explained that I couldn’t afford that amount, and after numerous attempts to extract money from me, they simply cut the call. How terribly inconsiderate! Now, I’m left feeling anxious about whether they’ve rummaged through my laptop, exposing all my personal information-like online banking details and PayPal access. What a right plonker I’ve been!

I recently dialled this number after it popped up on my laptop, claiming my device was infected with a virus. Unfortunately, the call got abruptly disconnected, and now I’m quite anxious they might have accessed some of my personal details. What steps can I take to safeguard my information?

Steer clear of making any calls. It's best to restart your computer.
We've had a right scare; someone managed to get into our system. Now we've been told to completely wipe our machine to prevent them from snooping on our emails, which hold all our card information!

I received a message on my computer that included a phone number, and I couldn't seem to erase it. At first, I thought it was a legitimate support request from Microsoft. However, my suspicions were raised when they started talking about payment.

I've found myself in a bit of a pickle after accidentally calling this number, and honestly, it's left me quite worried. If anyone could shed some light or offer guidance, I'd be most grateful.

What a complete scam! I received a message on my laptop accompanied by an obnoxiously loud voice claiming that my computer was infected with a virus. They warned me against purchasing anything online and insisted that I call them immediately, which I foolishly did. An individual with an Indian accent began interrogating me about my laptop’s security measures and offered dubious advice on how to safeguard it. It was all merely a tactic to gain my trust. Then, he instructed me to go to my computer and follow his steps so he could "help" remove the supposed virus as a so-called technical expert. Naturally, I saw through their ruse and promptly declined, fully recognising this for the scam it truly was!

It appears that I've fallen victim to this dubious number as well. An alarming notification popped up on my laptop, urging me to contact them, and I, foolishly believing it to be legitimate due to some recent DVD playback issues, ended up chatting with them for over 40 minutes. Eventually, they requested payment to 'reboot' my device. I politely declined and asked if they could ring me back today, which is a Monday, and unsurprisingly, I haven’t heard a peep from them since. I’m absolutely relieved I read all your feedback; now, I'm planning to pursue a claim through my contents insurance.

I'm facing a similar issue myself! Out of the blue, I got a call on my Sky Broadband that came with this irritating high-pitched buzzing sound. It's been a nightmare trying to find anything online to sort it out! Quite frustrating, I must say!

I received what seemed like a warning notification from Norton related to this phone number. I couldn't get rid of the message on my screen. I tried giving them a call, but the line went dead as soon as they started requesting payment.

I experienced something similar, did you give the number a buzz? I did, but I hung up partway through when the chap with the Indian accent started providing me with directions so that their so-called 'tech whiz' could access my machine and sort out the issue...um, no thanks!

I'm in a bit of a pickle here. There's this persistent message flashing on my laptop screen, courtesy of Norton antivirus, claiming that my computer is being hacked and urging me to contact them right away. It’s completely unresponsive, and I can’t seem to close the window at all. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I recently had a rather annoying experience with Core News, a site for music downloads. It seemed harmless enough until it froze my computer with a bogus virus warning. The only way I could get rid of it was by restarting my machine, which was incredibly frustrating. Definitely not something I'd recommend!
