Got a call today claiming to be Virgin Media, but it was clear a bit dodgy. They said they were giving me a reward for being a good customer! They asked about my payment details and postcode - I told them they should already have that info and asked for my account number to prove it was them. Then they just ended the call.

I called Virgin Mobile (my network) and they told me this isn't one of their official marketing numbers, so it's a scam. Don't call back as it could be a cloned 0800 number that actually links to some expensive premium line, which'll cost you a fortune. I've blocked it but the calls still go to voicemail, and there’s no way to fully stop that with Virgin. I guess I could pick up and tell them off, blow a whistle down the phone, or leave them waiting ages on hold. Hopefully they won’t ring again, but I’m not holding my breath!

I’ve been getting calls from 0800 408 9341 and 01792 917749 quite a bit. When you look up 01972 91749, you’ll find it’s been checked like 34,125 times, which is mad. I brought up the 01792 number cos it usually rings soon after the 0800 one. I’ve blocked both now and hope that sorts it out. I take meds for depression and these calls aren’t great for my headspace. I never pick up, but I still get all anxious whenever either number pops up.

This morning, my husband received a phone call on his mobile seeking to speak with me. Makes you think it’s something urgent and free since it’s an 0800 number, but it's a complete scam. If you try to call back, you might get stung with charges because sometimes they fake the number showing on your phone, but it could actually be a premium rate line.

Are people on here seriously that clueless? This is a real department at Virgin Media providing genuine discounts you won’t find through the usual direct routes. Why Virgin uses this method and makes people so suspicious is another story, but the truth is you can snag a cracking deal on your home or mobile plan.
