The scam typically involves large fraudulent payment requests, sometimes from varied names using a common numeric code to track each case. Victims are warned not to call the number or provide personal data, as this leads to phishing attempts and potential account compromise. 4 yearsHey everyone trying to figure out what’s legit and what’s dodgy. Honestly, this scam is kinda clever - they’ve included loads of real links, but the ‘pay now’ button and the phone number are totally fake. Big thanks to Who-Calls.Me.UK for keeping us all in the loop with their great service. Cheers, RayKudos4 yearsI got a call from a number that supposedly came from inside my PayPal account, relating to a charge of £867.99 from someone called AlmaSparks0077. It seemed dodgy, so I went straight to PayPal’s official site and asked them about it. They told me it was actually a scam they’re currently trying to sort out. The scammers are abusing a real PayPal feature that lets people request money. I’ve seen other comments mentioning that the “0077” bit at the end of different email names is common - probably a way for the scammers to keep track of their own operations. PayPal confirmed that my account hadn’t been hacked, but if I’d rung the number, they would’ve tried to fish out my details. Best to be cautious and verify everything with official sources. Don’t trust calls or messages like this without checking.PayPal4 yearsBe wary of this number; it’s definitely not a legitimate HMRC contact. I received a voicemail that was clearly automated. The message was alarming, stating they were instigating an arrest warrant for me regarding tax evasion, and urged me to press 1 immediately. Go ahead and block this number without hesitation!HMRC4 yearsGot a call from this number early on a Monday, around 8am. A bloke with a thick accent was speaking quickly and there was loads of noise in the background. Somehow he got me to say out loud the verification code that PayPal had just sent to my phone. Only after that did I work out that he could use it to access my account and possibly change the password.PayPal4 yearsGot a call from +44-800-368-3175 claiming to be from PayPal. They asked me about a payment I never made, supposedly from someone named MichaelCDusharme0077. Definitely looks like a scam, watch out!PayPal4 yearsJust a heads up, got a message supposedly from PayPal saying there was weird activity on my account and £899.99 had been taken out. They told me to ring +44-800-368-3175 right away to sort it out. But honestly, it's a total scam. Don’t ring that number or make any payments - just block it and keep an eye on your bank. Transaction ID they gave was U-17985984X2376112C and it was from someone named Lamarious M Alexander. Stay safe!PayPalLamarious M AlexanderWITHDRAWN4 yearsThis number’s connected with some PayPal scam, they try to get your cash. A woman picks up, and you can hear fake office sounds like it’s a call centre. They’ll ask which bank you use. Proper dodgy, avoid it. Never ring back or share any of your details with them.4 yearsSomeone rang me claiming to be from Paypal. I asked if there was a way to confirm if the call was legit or just a scam. They got silent for a bit and then just ended the call. Pretty shady if you ask me!PayPal4 yearsI nearly got caught out by these lot. They emailed me from what looked like a real PayPal address. Then called me after I rang the number, sounded proper slick. I was about to hand over money but then they wanted my three digit security code, claiming it was to find the hackers or something. That’s when I told them to jog on!PayPal4 yearsGot a message on PayPal from someone called Julian Pesina, it had a phone number listed in the notes - looked a bit fishy to me. The email address was a weird jumble, something like [email protected] My gut said it was a scam, probably hoping I'd ring the number thinking it was PayPal to approve some dodgy payment. So, I didn’t bother calling and just went ahead and cancelled the whole thing. The message said something like "UNAUTHORISED ACTIVITY DETECTED ON YOUR ACCOUNT £899.99 GBP HAS BEEN TAKEN. PLEASE RING +44-800-368-3175 IMMEDIATELY TO SORT IT OUT," which thankfully set off alarm bells.Julian PesinaPayPalALERT4 yearsI got a request for money on PayPal from someone named Sharra Lester, and in the notes it had a phone number. The message said something about "UNAUTHORIZED ACTIVITY ON YOUR ACCOUNT £899.99 GBP WAS TAKEN. PLEASE CONTACT US AT +44-800-368-3175 RIGHT AWAY." Definitely a scam, I cancelled the payment on PayPal straight away. Be careful!Sharra LesterWITHDRAWN4 yearsGot hit with a pretty clever Paypal scam recently, targeting active accounts. The con was connected to someone named Trae Williams [email protected], trying to get me to send a large amount from my account. Heads up - don’t ring the number they give, and definitely don’t give out any details. I tried to flag it with Paypal but man, it’s not straightforward to report these things!PaypalTrae Williams4 yearsI got an email that looked legit from PayPal asking for money. The email really was from them, but turns out anyone can send a money request if they know your email address. I actually called the number they gave me but no one picked up, so then I thought I’d look it up here... big mistake. It's a sneaky scam that uses a real PayPal email to trick you.PayPal4 yearsI didn’t get an actual call but nearly ended up ringing the number listed in a Paypal request from someone named Standifer Ellason E. The note said something like "SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY DETECTED IN YOUR ACCOUNT, £899.99 DEBITED. PLEASE CALL +44-800-368-3175 IMMEDIATELY." Rather than dialling that number, I decided to check my Paypal account directly. There, I could see the transaction and had the option to either approve or cancel it. Obviously, I chose to cancel it.Standifer Ellason E.4 yearsI had the same problem. I tried ringing the number but it seems it’s out of service now, so at least they might be doing something about it. I’d recommend cancelling the payment through PayPal instead.PayPal4 yearsYeah, total scam. I just went straight to PayPal myself and cancelled the payment request, best thing to do!PayPal4 yearsI got an email from someone pretending to be PayPal saying Richard Cecil tried to charge me £899.99 three times. Luckily, I ignored all the payment requests and have blocked that person. The number they used is no longer in service anyway.PayPalRichard Cecil4 yearsGot an email from 'Paypal' that looked legit, asking for £899.99. I rang the number given and had a chat with a woman who seemed to be from Paypal. She even knew my address and bank card info, which freaked me out. When she asked for the 3-digit code on the back of my card, I refused. After that, she got quite pushy, so I ended the call straight away realising this was a scam. Honestly, I thought I was clued up about these things, but this one was really well done. Definitely don't ring that number. Just cancel the payment request and block it. It even showed up in my actual Paypal app, so it really tricked me.PayPalSubmit Your Own Report (0800 368 3175)
