Got hit by a PayPal scam where someone tried to take £799 out of my account. I got an email from PayPal saying if I didn't know this payment request I should ring them. Foolishly, I rang the number given and ended up giving away my security info. What really confused me was them sending codes to my phone to “verify” me - no clue how they got that. Next thing I knew, they’d changed my password. Properly shaken up here! I’m worried they might have access to my emails too. Spent ages trying to get hold of PayPal but it was pointless and so frustrating. I changed my password as soon as I could and blocked the number, which was 0800 368 7384. Seriously, don’t ring that number. The bloke on the other end told me to screw off before hanging up!

Avoid this number at all costs, they are con artists! They try to sound really official, like they’re from Paypal’s cancellation or management department (no disrespect, but the strong Indian accent gave it away). I got about 10 emails from Paypal about money requests from strangers I’ve never met! This phone number was listed as some kind of Paypal support line! They trick you into giving your info and then go on to use your cards online. I ended up freezing my bank cards just to be safe!

Complete scam! Never ever give them a ring or hand out any info to these lot!! They even messaged me pretending to be PayPal, asking to confirm stuff, or claimed it was my bank wanting my details!! Somehow they'd already got all my card info - no clue how that happened!

Got a dodgy Paypal notification claiming Sandra Himmelman sent me a money request. The message said something about "Suspicious activity detected in your account" and that £899.99 was taken out. They told me to ring +44 800 368 3167 right away to sort it. Definitely seems like a scam.

I got onto my PayPal account straight away, cancelled the request, blocked the sender and filed a complaint through their site about the suspicious activity. Seems like just having your email can let someone send you a payment request on PayPal - watch out!

I have a feeling this might be a scam. Got an email about an £899.99 bill supposedly from PayPal, and it even appeared as an unpaid charge in my PayPal account. The email included a phone number, 800-368-3167, but I didn’t ring it. Instead, I tried calling PayPal to confirm, but they’re closed on Sundays! Then I gave their online chat a go, but honestly, that was completely pointless!

Anyone know how to block someone on PayPal? It looks like you can only block people who are already in your contacts, like those you've actually dealt with before. Would really appreciate some help on this!

So, I went into the PayPal app, opened the transaction for the money request, and found a screen showing everything about it, with buttons to either pay or decline. Near the bottom, there were choices to both block the lady who sent it and also report her. I chose to do both. Hopefully that’s useful to someone else.

Don’t trust this number claiming to be Paypal support. It’s definitely a scam that tries to trick you with a fake Paypal payment request. What's worse is Paypal actually emailed me, showing the fraudsters’ payment demand, which just made it all more confusing. Got an email claiming to be from PayPal saying Victoria Sosa requested money from me. The note said something about suspicious activity on my account and that £899.99 was taken, telling me to ring +44-800-368-3167 right away to sort it out. I just blocked the request in the PayPal app and never rang the number, seemed dodgy to me.

I’ve reported and cancelled it. How come it's so simple now to set up a PayPal account with loads of different usernames? I was under the impression you needed a proper bank account or card to get one going. Really not pleased about this.

It actually seemed quite legit, since I got texts and WhatsApp messages from what looked like PayPal’s number! No clue how they pull that off. Sadly, they got hold of my info. As soon as I realised, I called my bank to report it, cancelled my card straight away and also informed PayPal about the whole thing.
