10 yearsTotal con artists. They claimed my computer was infected with spyware or malware and offered "assistance" but only if I followed their steps exactly. Obviously, it was meant to be free. They said they spotted the infection through something called a CLS ID, but would only share that info after I gave them access to my machine. They pretended to be from "PC Expert" at 146 Banberry Road, Oxford. The number they gave me was 0800 310 1264, but the real call came from 0208 777 5555. BT advised this might be a spoofed line from overseas. When I googled the 0208 number, it was linked to some old employment agency fax in Ilford. I didn’t bother returning either call. While still on the phone, I looked up the company and quickly found out this is a known scam that cycles through various phone numbers.
