Looks like this is an overseas number, probably from India, but it's coming through the 0800 range. From what people have said about how often they get calls, if this is Virgin Media using an offshore call centre, they really should shut it down or at least properly train the staff. They knew my name and the last four digits of my bank card and asked me to verify my address. Everything sounded genuine until they started asking how long I'd lived at that place and also wanted my full bank account number and sort code. I didn't give anything away. +800 1836409 rang me yesterday evening but I hung up straight away. Seems fishy to me. Also got an email saying someone was trying to get into my Apple account and if I didn’t verify it, my account would be shut down. When I looked closer, the link actually led me to a Virgin Media page. I called Apple support and they told me it was a phishing email, advised me to delete it and to change all my Apple passwords asap.

They said they were from Virgin Media and knew my name, then wanted my address. Told them I’m aware of data protection laws and I wouldn’t give it out. They argued back for a bit then just ended the call. Definitely not genuine, watch out!

BEWARE!! I just got a call from these people pretending to be from Virgin about some upgrade. When I asked them to prove they were actually Virgin, they just ended the call. They had a foreign accent, maybe Indian or somewhere nearby. It's clearly a scam but it worries me that my details are somehow in the hands of these scammers. I reckon my info has been leaked from the Virgin call centre I contacted last week. I reckon personal data is being sold somewhere dodgy. If this rings a bell with you, please warn Virgin (but not the call centre obviously).

I've been with Virgin for quite a few years, so I'm quite familiar with how they operate. They hardly ever ring you, and if they do, they always ask if you're okay to share any info before asking for it. If you're not comfortable, just say no and end the call. They won’t be bothered if you choose to ring them back instead (which I'd recommend, as their calls go through a central system). In short - if they’re calling you by your name, it’s most likely a scam. Best thing is to hang up and dial 150 yourself - it’s free and secure.

Got a call from this number earlier. I just let it ring since I didn’t recognise it. Saw loads of others saying they picked up and the caller started saying their names right away, which is a red flag for me. Virgin staff never do that. If anything, they always ask YOUR name first. They have your info on file, but they still confirm for security before saying anything.

If you happen to get a dodgy call, I reckon giving them a right telling off might do the trick. Just let them know in no uncertain terms that you’re not one to be trifled with, and that you could make their life rather uncomfortable. I’m sure they’ll think twice before trying to get in touch again!

Honestly, don’t trust VM when they claim it’s a scam, they’re just a bunch of muppets with zero customer service sense. I won’t say how I found out, but just pick a different company, these lot are dodgy. End of story.

He knew my name and claimed he was from Virgin Media, but the way he said my name sounded off. I could tell it was a scam from the dodgy tone in his voice, so I looked it up and blocked the number. Sick of these scammers, really hope Virgin Media take action against them.
