They claimed to be Barclays, but I've checked and they definitely aren't. They were attempting to withdraw cash from my account. This number seems really dodgy.

Got a call supposedly from Barclays saying there was some dodgy activity on my credit card, just a tiny charge of £0.01 from some company I’d never heard of in Los Angeles. They said they’d blocked my card after I told them it wasn’t me, which made me a bit uneasy. I didn’t want to give them any details straight away, so I looked up Barclays number online and called them myself. They confirmed my card had been cancelled and a replacement sent out. Best thing is to never trust unexpected calls like that, just hang up, find the right number yourself and make the call.

If this was some kind of scam, it’s seriously well done. I was right in the process of buying something with my card when the payment failed and I got a call straight away. I looked up the number online and it was from Barclaycard. When I phoned back, the automated system only asked me to verify my date of birth by picking from four options, then it checked if I’d made several purchases recently - the dates, amounts and reasons all matched perfectly.

I got an automated call from someone I didn’t know, ringing me twice on January 28th and once more on the 29th. Two of the three calls were about supposed fraud on my Barclaycard, which I just ignored. When I didn’t pick up, they didn’t bother leaving a voicemail or emailing me like my voicemail asked.

watch out, this was defo some sort of phishing trick! they told me it was about updates to my natwest account, so to be safe i rang them back just to verify, but the recorded message said something random about suspicious activity on my barclays account and asked me to enter account info. honestly, don’t trust this, its dodgy!

According to the built-in “BARCLAYS Comment Box,” this number is supposedly genuine and verified by Barclays. But it also mentions that scammers can ‘spoof’ phone numbers, meaning they can fake or copy them! So, I’m a bit doubtful about the earlier comment that labelled this as a “SAFE Legitimate Barclays phone number” and marked it GREEN [Safe]. There’s really no guarantee that con artists couldn’t be pretending to use this number. Probably best if we wait for more feedback before making a final call! :)

according to the legit “barclays comment box” on the site, this number is genuine and verified by barclays themselves. but they also warn that scammers might ‘spoof numbers’ (pretend to be that number or make one up). so, i’m not sure if the earlier person is right calling it a “safe legitimate barclays phone number” and marking it green for safe, since scammers could still fake it. probably best to wait and see what others say before deciding! :-)

Received three calls today. Each time I picked up, a robotic voice addressed me by my first name and last name. I didn’t stick around for more and hung up straight away.

I received a call from what turned out to be the genuine fraud prevention department of my credit card provider. Initially, I dismissed it, as the automated voice instructed me to return the call using the number it provided. Instead, I decided to verify the authenticity by contacting the customer service line printed directly on my card. To my relief, they confirmed that it was indeed a proper fraud alert-there had been some suspicious activity involving my card in a foreign country. Honestly, they would do well to use an actual person for these calls rather than a soulless machine; who doesn't just hang up the moment they hear that robotic voice? My advice to anyone receiving a call that feels a bit off is to take note of the company mentioned, but always ring back using a customer service number you can trust-like the one found on your card or recent statements.
