I was pretty sure I was speaking with BT tech support after using their site to get the contact, but when they started asking me to verify some details and those last three digits, it felt a bit off. So I decided to end the call and searched the number 0800 11 4567 on Google, only to find out it’s actually a scam.

I haven’t tried phoning this number yet, but it was given to me by a BT employee who contacted me about a complaint I made to BT. She told me I should reach out to the BT Tech team and provided this number along with another one. When I looked up this number, those sites like WhoRangMe pop up first, and loads of people claim it’s a scam. A bit further down, on some BT forums, the main gripe is about very long hold times. So, I’m going to label this number as NEUTRAL for now - it seems like it might be genuine to call, but there’s always a chance it’s being faked for scam calls.

I rang this number after my wifi stopped working. Looked it up online and it looked like a legit BT contact. But right after the phone call ended, I got a call from a mobile number. It was a woman with an Asian accent saying my internet had been hacked. I just hung up. Then I tried calling BT again, but using other numbers. They told me the mobile number was a scam and was no longer active. Pretty weird timing if you ask me.

Someone claiming to work for BT phoned me about a complaint I made. He said his name was Stuart, but after chatting for a while, I’m pretty certain he was a young Asian guy. No accent, just the way he spoke gave it away. He gave me this number to ring for BT Help Desk in the future. I’m not buying it!

Got a call from this number about 10 in the morning. I ignored it and let it go to voicemail. Then I dialed 1471 to check the number so I could report it here. Weirdly, my WIFI’s been acting up the last few days and I’m having a BT engineer come round Monday morning to sort it. Also, I got a odd call saying I owe £199 a year for Amazon Prime, which I’ve never signed up for. They said I need to pay or cancel. Should I ring them in the morning now I’m aware of this suspicious call earlier?

Got an email from esecure consultants claiming I owed for some IT service plan. Then got a call from 08001114567. The guy, with an asian accent, said his name was David Morgan and left me a number to ring him back on 0121284 0705 if I had any computer issues. Sounds like a total scam to me.

This rubbish bloke has somehow managed to knock out our BT WiFi completely. As if starting chemo in 4 days wasn’t stressful enough, bloody BT for letting their customers get ripped off and having to cough up for the mess. And to top it off, Kaspersky Internet Security let us down big time too - both companies are a total joke.

This was another one of those scam calls saying they're from Open Reach. This guy, ‘Matthews’, insisted he was with Open Reach and wanted to sort out a ‘slow connection’ issue on my hub. He kept pushing that I should verify his ID by ringing a certain number. When I asked, he claimed he was calling from an office at 81 Newgate, London. After I didn’t play along, he just hung up. Unsurprisingly, the call didn’t show any number. I’ve had loads of calls like this now, so I can spot them easily, but I’m sure they’d catch out people who aren’t so wary.

Got a call from someone claiming to be "James from BT" saying my internet was at risk and open to hackers. I asked his surname ("Patel") and requested a contact number, which he said was 08001114567. Then I asked what account number he had for me and he quickly said EA81448670. I told him I needed to double-check and kept him on the line while I looked up my actual BT account number. He kept calling back to ask if I was done. Eventually, he hung up. That account number he gave was nothing like mine. Totally a con.

I was suspicious, then someone called Daniel said he was a supervisor and assured me it was legit. I asked for a contact number to ring back if needed. The line was awful and it sounded like they might be calling from another country.

Some bloke calling from BT, sounded like he was Asian and said his name was Michael Williams. He gave me a number to call back on. The call came from 01264872845. Even when I called him out on it being a scam, he just stuck to his lines and kept telling me to switch on my computer so he could fix things.

Got a call from a withheld number claiming to be BT about some broadband issues. They asked to access my computer remotely, but I said no. Then they said a supervisor would ring back. When they called again, I still didn’t answer ‘cause I wasn’t sure who they were. After some hassling, they finally gave a number which matches the one here. Got a call from a woman with an Asian accent using the number 01478 936475, saying she was calling on behalf of BT. She mentioned there was suspicious activity around my router and that hackers were trying to break in. She even knew my full name and address. She asked if I’d let her team access my computer and router to fix the issue. Before doing anything, she told me to verify by calling BT, and gave me the number 08001114567. But instead, I phoned BT using their official number, and they told me it was a scam. Quite dodgy!

A bloke called David Wilson from Accident UK rang my landline, no English accent, said someone linked to me was in an accident around 2016-2017. Couldn’t give me a name, just said he was a legal rep for some solicitors firm. Claimed he got my info from the road safety authority. I’ve told the authority now as they weren’t aware and said they’ll look into it. It’s obviously a scam, which I already suspected.

I just got a call from a guy with an Indian accent who said his name was Ron Wayne, probably a cousin of that other cowboy with a similar name. When I rang the number back, an English woman answered - she sounded like she worked for BT and told me it was definitely a scam. I'm thinking about reporting it to 1572 call protect, but since the number is actually a legit BT one, I'm a bit hesitant to do so.

Got a couple of calls today from a bloke claiming to be with BT. I asked where he was ringing from and his number just to check. He gave me 08001114567 but said he was calling all the way from Nepal. Halfway through, he went quiet a few times and I heard him chuckling with someone else in the background. He said he was a BT tech, number 771108568. Smells a bit dodgy to me, probably some kind of scam.

I got a call early, about half past seven, regarding my internet speed. The bloke seemed genuine enough, especially since he didn’t ask for any passwords or make me hang on the phone. So, I guess some of these calls might be legit, but it’s still best to stay cautious.

Had a phone call from a bloke with an Indian accent who claimed his name was 'John Da Souza' and said he was ringing from BT Open Reach about my internet going slow. When I asked if it was legit, he told me to ring 08001114567 from a different phone so I could verify it. But he wanted me to stay on the line so he could supposedly check my computer. I ended up hanging up and trying 1471 to get the number back, but no luck - the caller blocked it.

Today, someone named Sam Anderson rang me, claiming to be from "Windows" regarding some issues I'd been having with files I'd downloaded that supposedly caused viruses on my computer. He mentioned he was calling from London, but my phone showed an "international out of area number," which seemed odd. I told him I'd get my husband to return the call since I’m not very good with all this complicated tech stuff. The number was 0800 1114567. At least he got my last name correct.

As an Openreach technician, let me shed some light on the process. Once you connect your broadband, our team will conduct a thorough check on the line from the exchange to your residence. If everything appears shipshape, then an Openreach engineer may make their way to your location. However, should they discover any faults within your internal wiring, be prepared for potential charges related to that. It’s a bit of a labyrinth, but that’s how it goes!

Hello everyone, it seems there's a significant amount of improvement still needed here! I've been trying for nearly an hour now, and I'm yet to receive any assistance. It's as if the team either lacks a proper understanding of the situation or there's just a long delay. This isn't the first time we’ve encountered such a problem, and to say it's frustrating would be an understatement, especially as this was on Boxing Day. I could hear the staff chuckling in the background, which certainly didn’t help matters!

As Openreach engineers, our role kicks in as soon as you report a fault with your broadband connection. Initially, we’ll check the line from the exchange right through to your property. If nothing appears to be amiss on our end, an FSI Openreach engineer will get in touch with you. Should it turn out that the problem lies within your home’s wiring, you may incur a fee for the visit. So be mindful of that!

As former BT technicians, I can shed some light on the lengthy wait times you've been experiencing. It turns out that the tech support line receives a substantial volume of calls from customers seeking assistance. However, if you fancy a bit of a shortcut, I’d recommend giving them a ring either late at night or in the early afternoon. That way, you’re likely to be on hold for a mere ten minutes or so, if that!

Got a call from some IT scam folks saying there was a problem with my computer. They said they were working for Microsoft and somehow connected to BT as well. The man on the phone gave me a number to ring him back. He introduced himself as Harry Wilson and sounded Indian. He also mentioned his address was 100 Victoria Street, London SW1E 5JL.

I got this number after I questioned a random caller about how I could trust he was legit. He claimed to be from some Cybercrime unit and said someone in Nigeria was using my phone number, computer, and credit card to deal with marijuana. His accent was quite thick and he introduced himself as Sam Cooper. He just said he wanted to warn me, didn’t offer to do anything else. I think that’s because I fibbed and said I don’t own a computer! I kept him talking as long as I could, but all I ended up with was this phone number.
