The text looked exactly like the usual scam warnings. How am I meant to advise others on online safety if real messages come across this way?

Fortunately, the notification I received provided the contact number 0800 085 1721 for customer support. I verified this information on Barclays' official website, just to be certain.

While I was away on holiday, I got a message from this number claiming my card was deactivated. It seemed dodgy, so I didn’t reply right away. Once I got back, I rang Barclaycard using the number on the back of my card. They told me this number wasn’t theirs at all! Turns out, my card was totally fine and they had no clue about any such call. Watch out for this!

I got a text supposedly from "BARCLAYS" claiming they needed to confirm some recent activity on my debit card. Soon after, another message came through listing a transaction and asking me to reply with Y or N if I recognised it. I replied N, and then I got a call. The woman on the line seemed dodgy straight away and her first question was for my date of birth. I told her I wasn’t comfortable giving out personal info over the phone, especially without being certain it was really Barclays calling. She then told me I could ring their fraud team myself if I preferred, which I said I would. Almost instantly, they sent me another text saying my card had been temporarily blocked to stop fraud, and they wanted me to call 08000851721 immediately. I looked up that number and it’s definitely not Barclays - their real contact details are all on their official site or the back of the card. So right now I’m waiting on hold with the genuine Barclays number...
