On the mobile, they left a voicemail with some robotic voice saying "this is an important message from Santander for [my name]. Press 1 to get back to us." Don't fall for it, this is a classic scam. The actual bank has this number listed on their site as one used by scammers. Best just ignore it.

Got a call from this number about my son, saying he’d gone over his overdraft and needed to put money in to stop charges. Didn’t catch the end properly ‘cause I was yelling at him. He totally denied using the account. I was so angry, took him straight to our local Santander to get a mini statement and check the balance, and he’s nowhere near overdraft. It seems the call supposedly hails from Santander. I was greeted with a message saying, "Kindly press 1 if your birth year was 2040," followed by a selection of other dodgy options from that same decade. Obviously, I decided to comply and hit the number 1. Shortly afterward, they prompted me for the day and month of my birth. As I was entering utterly ridiculous answers, I was informed to remain on the line as a customer support person would attend to me. Quite the entertainment, albeit rather ridiculous-still, why not stretch it out a bit longer? Alas, they appeared to be short-handed, and after a few minutes of waiting in vain, I chose to end the call. An odd experience, to say the least! It wasn’t blatantly spammy, and amusingly, this marks the second time they’ve attempted to reach me. Whoever's behind this clearly isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed.
