I received a rather alarming notification about an attempted withdrawal of £698 from my PayPal account. Naturally, I phoned the number provided, mistakenly believing it was legitimate PayPal support. The person on the line had a thick Indian accent, and when I mentioned that I’d shut my account following the notification, he became quite aggressive, practically yelling, “Why would you do that?” They persisted in requesting my email address before abruptly ending the call. It was clearly a scam operation! I urge everyone to steer clear of that number. If you receive any suspicious emails, make sure to look up the genuine PayPal contact number instead.

Every time I bring up the word "scam," they seem to get all flustered and just cut the conversation short. It's quite amusing, really! Almost as if they're trying to hide something. I reckon they’re not too keen on discussing the details.

I received an email that seemed to be from Virgin Money, and this number was referenced in it, but I suspect it might be a dodgy one.

BEWARE - PayPal FRAUD ALERT - Call centre operating from India. They’ve been sending out payment requests via PayPal, and the accompanying message raises red flags, stating something akin to, "this might be potential spam; if so, please ring this number (the one listed above)." This almost turned into a nightmare for my Mum. She unwittingly called the number and was led to change her account password under the pretext of ‘verifying’ her identity by receiving a confirmation code. They managed to log into her account and even recounted several of her past transactions before they requested her current card details. Thankfully, she had the sense not to provide that information, and I had just returned home when she started to relay what had transpired. I made her hang up straight away, and I've since managed to secure her account. A word to the wise? If you come across a phone number in an app or email, don’t be tempted to just click it. Instead, look up the official customer service number for the site in question and use that instead.

Someone is masquerading as PayPal! Best to log into your account directly and review your transactions. If anything looks dodgy, make sure to cancel it, but steer clear of giving them a ring. Stay savvy!

Just a quick heads-up regarding a dodgy money request I received for a hefty sum through PayPal. I've made a note to forward this info to [email protected]. Whatever you do, don’t share any details with this number. Make sure to find PayPal’s official contact number, as they’ll provide you with a 6-digit verification code. This is the second dodgy request I've encountered in the last ten days! Stay vigilant!

I've had a similar experience - received a dodgy message that claimed to be from VirginMoneyUK, stating there was a suspicious payment attempt for £299 that had been halted. They wanted me to either click a link to their 'anti-fraud department' or ring an 0800 number. The thing is, I don't even have an account or credit card with them! My personal information was nowhere to be found in the email either. It's baffling how they managed to get hold of my email. After seeing the posts on this site, I'd be wary of any Paypal accounts if I actually had one.
