I got scammed by someone using the number 3483743070, linked to a listing on Kijiji. Be careful dealing with them!

I got caught out by a scam recently. I logged into my Paypal and saw a payment request from someone called Clemment Tyler right there on my dashboard. Foolishly, I rang the number, and a guy with an Indian accent answered, claiming to be a Paypal customer support agent. He seemed really friendly and promised to help me sort the issue. The process dragged on for ages, and somehow they managed to reset my Paypal password even though I never gave out any account details. I use two-step verification, with both a password and an authenticator app, so I’m still baffled how they pulled that off. Since my Barclays card was linked to Paypal, they accessed my bank accounts and drained all my funds, including savings, by getting me to log into the banking app under the pretense of crediting my account. They also made me confirm my card using the card reader! They also tried charging my MBNA credit card twice but luckily both went through as declines. They even had the cheek to phone MBNA trying to get them to verify my online banking username! This has left me feeling absolutely rubbish and like the biggest fool ever. I genuinely hope nobody else has to go through this nightmare!

Just like everyone else here, I’m done - closing my account for good! There’s this charge of £890 that popped up, with a message saying: FRAUDULENT TRANSACTION DETECTED FOR 890.00 GBP. They tell you to ring +44-800-058-4853 straight away or else the money gets taken out within 12 hours. The message came from someone named Jill Skehanka.r.a.ma.llelun.as1. This is dodgy, so I’m not taking any chances.

Got a text supposedly from PayPal about a dodgy transaction on my account, saying someone named Veronica Clark tried to charge me £890. The message said if I didn’t phone this number in 12 hours, the money would be taken out. The weird thing is, the message looked more like it was linked to Veronica's charge rather than an official PayPal alert. Feels like a scam trying to get me to ring and maybe nick my PayPal info. So, I ignored the number and just rejected the payment request.

Same thing happened to me but it was someone called James Chambers. I tried getting in touch with PayPal about it, but it looks like they don’t offer any way to report fraud once a payment’s been cancelled. Bit strange that PayPal doesn’t have any fraud support for situations like this.

I got a call from this number, saying I needed to quickly settle a debt by sending £890 through PayPal. Sounded dodgy to me.

Just a heads up about PayPal - whenever I try to go through the complaints section, I keep getting this error message! It says: Cannot GET /activity/moneyrequest/%7BlinkPrefix%7D/GB/smarthelp/complaints. Anyone else seen this? Proper frustrating!

Got the exact same text and sum come through. Pretty obvious try at phishing this is.

I just got a message on Paypal from someone called Carolyn Gonzales asking me to ring the exact same number. The weird part is, I’m based in Italy! I’m planning to try and cancel it and report this to Paypal asap. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Same here, got a message this morning from someone called Diane Isaacs. Looked into my Paypal and saw a £890.00 payment request there. I ended up canceling it, but I doubt it would have gone through without my okay. Didn't even realise you could send a payment request through Paypal, and a bit unsettling they used the real name. Seems like the trick is to get you to ring that number - I’m really curious what they want if you do.

Got an email supposedly from PayPal, saying someone called 'Matthew Ellis' sent me a payment request with this note inside: 'IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM Matthew Ellis: 'A FRAUDULENT CHARGE OF 890.00 GBP HAS BEEN DETECTED ON YOUR ACCOUNT. TO CANCEL OR BLOCK THIS PAYMENT, RING US NOW @ +44-800-058-4853, OTHERWISE IT WILL BE TAKEN OUT WITHIN 12 HOURS.' Seriously, don’t dial that number. It’s just a classic scam trying to trick you.

Today, I got a message just like the others here, and it's obviously a scam. It's scary that something like this can even happen using PayPal. Instead of bombarding users with endless terms and conditions, maybe they should focus on keeping us safe from these frauds.

Got an email from someone called Victoria Breaker asking for £890, same as you. I’ve gone ahead and cancelled it, fingers crossed that does the trick. Tried to report it through PayPal but couldn’t see any option to do so 😕

I’m dealing with this exact thing at the moment. Someone named Michael Sanders is trying to take £890 out of my business account. It’s super stressful!

Trust me, that number’s a complete rip-off, steer well clear and don’t ring it!

Just got a message claiming to be from PayPal about a £890 charge from someone called Trisha A Mc. They told me to call +448000584853 or else that money will be taken from my bank. Seems dodgy to me.

I got a call from some bloke named Randy Holt too! What a coincidence!

I logged into my account and stopped the request, then rang them up on 02039017000 just to double-check that it was really cancelled.

I got an email like loads of others, but mine came from someone called Kim Duran. I just went straight to my PayPal account and stopped the payment there. After that, I changed my password just to be safe. Make sure you check your PayPal and cancel any payment requests you didn’t send!

Had the exact same thing happen to me, seemed like one of those payment scams. I cancelled the transaction right away and then reported it through PayPal's automated system.

I had the same deal. Shantel Smith had a payment of £890, but I ended up cancelling it via Paypal.

I sent it over to [email protected] and got an instant reply from their system. Bet they're getting loads of complaints about this number right now.

BE CAREFUL! Don’t hand over any personal info or send cash to these people! This number’s linked to a common scam where they claim there’s a “fraudulent payment” on your account and try to get you to pay up to fix it. It’s fake, so don’t fall for it - your money won’t be safe at all if you do. You’re not actually in any trouble, just ignore them.

I had a similar experience with Gloria Sejas, who sent me a demand for £890. What worries me most is the email came through my inbox looking like it was from a legit address, PayPal.co.uk. I’ve reported it to PayPal and ended up closing my account. I don’t really use it much anyway, so it’s not worth the hassle.

Avoid ringing that number, it's a scam. I gave them a call and pretended to go along with it. They're misusing the PayPal request feature. I've already informed PayPal about this. These people are definitely fraudsters.

Got a text supposedly from PayPal saying there was some dodgy activity on my account, asking me to pay £890 to Lynda Downs. The message said I had to ring this number within 12 hours or else the money would automatically come out of my account. Seemed a bit off to me.

I rang PayPal using the number 0203 901 7000 and had a chat with one of their agents. They said they already know about this problem and are looking into it. They told me to cancel the transaction from my computer, and assured me no money will be taken from my bank. Whatever you do, don’t call the number shown on the transaction itself!

I've had a similar experience, only with someone called Yasmin Lopez trying to trick me into ringing their number. The first email looked legitimate and the payment request was real - I checked on PayPal myself. But then the scammer adds a bit saying the transaction’s suspicious and wants you to phone them to stop it. Not falling for that, I just went ahead and cancelled the payment request straight away.

Someone asked me to send £890.00 to a Trisha Mc, and I stupidly rang the number they gave me. Pretty quickly I clocked it was dodgy when they sent me a code and told me not to share it with anyone, but then kept pushing me to give it to him. I ended up cancelling the whole thing.

Today I got the same weird call from someone called Charlotte Bosco??? I ended up changing my PayPal password straight away and cancelling everything just to be safe. Honestly, it was really frightening! When I saw the email and checked my PayPal account, I felt so anxious. I didn’t call the number they gave in the message, just to be on the safe side.

Ive been getting texts from this group, and they’re tryin to scam money outta my PayPal and bank accounts. Seems like they’re based in India or something. Watch out, people!

I got the same £890 charge from some bloke called John Neal, really frustrating. PayPal really should do something about this, it’s a shame they’re not sorting it out properly. These kinds of things need to be blocked.

Got the same deal from Jeffrey Danielak for £890. Ended up cancelling the whole payment.

Michael Vallejos hit me up with the exact same thing. I went ahead and stopped the payment before anything else. If you get a message like that, I'd say get in touch with PayPal but make sure you block the payment straight away!
