I got an email that seemed to be from my bank's fraud department, urging me to ring a particular number. I did a quick check on my call blocking app, and lo and behold, it was marked as a “PayPal scammer”. Safe to say, I won’t be taking that bait!

It appears that a vast majority of these fraudulent PayPal numbers stems from a particular telecoms provider. In the past month alone, I've managed to flag 75 alleged 'PayPal' numbers to them. Colt Technology seems to be turning a blind eye while these crooks continually obtain new numbers to peddle their scams. While I appreciate that the perpetrator might be a client of one of their resellers, it's clear that Colt Technology could take more robust measures to clamp down on this sort of wrongdoing within their network.

I recently got in touch with PayPal and have lodged an official complaint regarding a worrying issue. Please look into my call at 08:00 on 19th December 2022 with Toni, a supervisor in the Limitations Department based in the Philippines, which was recorded for reference. I am profoundly dissatisfied that, for a minimum of three weeks now, customers are still vulnerable to fraudulent activity. I base this "minimum of three weeks" on the police article dated 24/11/22, which addresses the PayPal scam - I’ve included the link below for your perusal. To think I received an email resembling the very one described in the police notification is quite troubling. Emails that originate from a genuine PayPal email address ([email protected]), potentially leading customers to part with their money under fraudulent pretences, is simply intolerable. Especially when it has been over three weeks without any advisory from PayPal regarding this ongoing scam. Why is this the case? Furthermore, when it comes to the transaction itself, might I ask why your web application does not scrutinise the information contained in the 'Note' section? My own transaction note read, “...If the transaction is unauthorized, contact our customer support team @ +44 800 058 4294.” Consequently, I, along with other customers, could easily find ourselves entangled in a telephone scam. This is particularly unacceptable for a financial institution of PayPal's stature. What actions does PayPal plan to take in response to this matter? I will be escalating this issue to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). Thank you for your attention to this pressing issue.

I recently received a rather dubious "Payment Request" on my PayPal for £879, purportedly from someone named Prof Hyatt Hyatt. It was blatantly a scam, so I swiftly cancelled the request and blocked the individual. Just so you know, here's the lowdown on this sneaky attempt: when someone sends a payment request, they can include a note, which has been cleverly crafted to appear legitimate. In this instance, the note mimics an official communication from PayPal, although I'd like to emphasise that PayPal never adds notes like this. Typically, these notes are meant for tradespeople to provide billing information or references. What the scam message stated was, "You've sent a payment of £879.99 GBP to TotalAV. If you believe this transaction is not authorised, please contact our customer support at +44 800 058 4294." However, the request did not originate from TotalAV but from a PayPal account with the name Prof Hyatt Hyatt. They've cunningly used this wording to deceive the recipient and include a phoney phone number, which is undoubtedly linked to the fraudsters and has nothing whatsoever to do with PayPal. Be vigilant!

I’ve just had an email from PayPal asking for a payment of £879.99 from someone named Mellie Emmerich. They’ve included a number, 08000584294, to ring if I think it’s an unauthorised transaction. Well, I can categorically say this is most definitely an “unauthorised” payment! Absolutely no idea what it’s even regarding.

I've found myself in quite a similar predicament. I’ve received a rather dubious payment request via PayPal from an individual named Profy Purdy, requesting a hefty £879. Curiously, the number listed as customer service in my email doesn't match up when I search it online. It seems like a well-crafted scam to me, and I must admit, it's left me feeling rather anxious.

I got a rather concerning message claiming that I had approved a PayPal transaction for £879.99 to Total AV, supposedly linked to a Brandon Kofer. I've swiftly cancelled this through my PayPal account and will be shutting my account down, as I hardly use it anyway. It appears we're dealing with a rather rampant scam that's making the rounds at the moment!

Beware, folks! This company is nothing more than a scam. I assure you, it is NOT affiliated with PayPal. If you get an email urging you to ring this number, don't fall for it! The email may seem like it’s from PayPal, but trust me, it’s a fraudulent attempt. Stay vigilant and don’t get duped!

I was alerted to this at 12:45 and promptly reported the phishing attempt to PayPal, who have since activated their safety measures to guard against any additional problems. I highly recommend logging into your accounts and denying the payment request. It would certainly be beneficial if PayPal could include an option in their emails to reject these fraudulent requests, rather than solely allowing payments to those nefarious individuals.
