08000232023 Summary (Read all comments)

Phone number ☎️ 08000232023 👆 is reported as a number frequently linked to scams impersonating BT, Openreach, or broadband providers. Callers often claim technical issues with internet connections, such as compromised IP addresses or malware, urging recipients to grant remote access or confirm appointments. While some calls appear as legitimate automated reminders for broadband appointments, many are aggressive, unclear, or involve suspicious behaviour like failed verification attempts and poor English accents from call centres, often overseas. The genuine BT or Openreach seldom initiate unsolicited calls requesting computer access or personal information. Users strongly advise ignoring or blocking the number, not engaging with callers, and verifying directly with official provider contacts. Persistent nuisance calls have been reported, and caution is advised, especially avoiding sharing any sensitive data or following instructions from unsolicited callers.

Tried calling a landline but it seems they’ve cut their service, yet this number just keeps calling me back. Sounds like someone’s pretty desperate if you ask me. Can’t say for certain it’s a scam, but I’m telling you, it definitely is. Best to just block the number straight away.

Got a voicemail from Openreach about an engineer visit to set up fibre broadband for the BT Digital Voice changeover. Before this, I’d already gotten about six texts telling me the date and time - they must be sending loads just to make sure the engineer doesn’t turn up to an empty house. The BT DV switch isn’t some kind of scam, it’s actually a legit nationwide update.

Got a phone call from BT Openreach’s appointment service because of a problem I reported with my office line via my internet supplier. The automated voice gave me the time of the appointment, pretty much clear enough - seriously BT, being in telecoms, couldn’t you make that robot voice sound less robotic? Still, it gave me all the details I needed so I’m rating it as okay.

This number keeps ringing me, often at weird hours both day and night. I usually don’t answer since I have no clue who it is. They just let it go to voicemail but never actually say anything or leave a message. Pretty annoying to be honest.

Got a million texts from BT Openreach about my Broadband booking, all trying to make sure I don’t forget it. Then they phoned me and left a message just to remind me again. I got a call from this number a few hours after placing an order for a Vodafone broadband and landline package (upgrading from FTTC to FTTP). I thought it was going to be someone from Vodafone or maybe Openreach, but the call was automated and the message was really unclear. They never said who they were, so it ended up feeling like a weird anonymous call.

I got a missed call with no voicemail. It’s happened before, usually on a Sunday morning, where someone rings pretending to be from my bank’s security team. They say there’s been some payments requested from my account, like one tiny charge from Amazon and then a much bigger bank transfer. Typical scam stuff really.

Got a call from 08000232023 today. When I picked up, all I got was a recorded message about some kind of fault outside, but it didn’t explain what sort of fault or which service it was about. A little while ago, I also got a couple of messages which claimed to be from Openreach, from +447701407770, about some appointment that I never arranged. This number left me a voicemail with a recorded message about an appointment with Open Reach. They actually had all my info right, including the date and time of the appointment, so it seems genuine. Still, the fact they used a robotic message and called a few times makes me wary. I wouldn’t share anything extra they don’t already know, just to be safe.

This is a scam for sure. If you check, the Google listing isn’t under Openreach, it’s actually on some kind of forum site. I’d steer clear and not pick up if this number rings you. My advice is to only trust what BT officially sends or arranges. Big thanks to everyone who’s been reporting this nonsense.

Totally a scam call. They rang me claiming to be from BT Openreach, saying my internet had been left "open". I mentioned I was wary of phishing calls, so the caller tried to reassure me by giving a personal network ID of 888DCA60 (which others here have reported too). I told them I’d double-check by ringing BT Openreach myself on another phone. Right after that, they just cut the call. Later, I googled 888DCA60 and found out it’s linked to loads of scams, from fake network IDs to bogus Microsoft account numbers. Definitely not to be trusted!

SCAM ALERT! My elderly mum and dad received a call from someone who said he was Andrew Hall from BT. He claimed their internet was public and everything they do online could be watched, including banking details being at risk. He wanted to “fix” the problem for them. They even gave a supposed BT staff ID and an 0800 023 2023 number to call back. Luckily, they were suspicious and checked with me before doing anything. It’s awful how these scammers target vulnerable people like that! How do they get away with this?

SCAM ALERT. Got a call from a woman with a foreign accent claiming she was from Open Reach, saying our internet was at risk because our IP was exposed. She warned the connection would be cut off in 72 hours. I’m quite tech savvy and something about it felt off. Some bloke named Richard Townshend rang me claiming to be from BT, saying my IP address was public and at risk, and I had to secure it immediately. I told him my Wi-Fi is password protected, so I wasn’t worried. He kept insisting my IP was public and that I didn’t know its status, so I needed to check. I told him I knew exactly what my IP was, so no need. Then he said again I didn’t know the status, so I asked for his phone number - dead silence. I asked a second time, saying I’d ring him back. I received a call today from a lady with an Indian accent who claimed to be calling from BT. She said there was a problem with my broadband connection and offered her assistance in fixing it. She requested that I open my computer, but I explained that it was not convenient for me to do so at the moment. Furthermore, she provided me with a contact number, 0800 032 2032, which I later discovered is related to Openreach. However, when I tried to verify the authenticity of the call using their system, I couldn't find any easy way to confirm it. Therefore, I believe that this might be a scam and have decided not to take any action based on the call.

A woman said she was calling from BT, saying my internet was running slow and they wanted to fix it. She asked me to do a speed test. A woman called saying she was with Open Reach and asked me to check my internet speed while sat at my computer. Since my broadband is fine, I asked her for her number so I could ring my provider first and then get back to her. She didn’t sound pleased at all!

A woman called saying she was from Openreach, offering to increase my internet speed. It sounded a bit fishy, so she wanted me to ring an 0800 number to confirm she was genuine. I told her to leave me alone and ended the call. I live somewhere with pretty slow internet, so I guess some folks might fall for it.

I recently had a telephone conversation with an individual who identified themselves as a representative from BT Open Reach. This person had a strong Asian accent, which made it difficult for me to comprehend their words. They informed me that there was an attempt to infiltrate my IP address by an unknown party. Sensing something suspicious, I requested a contact number to reach them later. Surprisingly, they provided me with the official BT helpline number. However, when I indicated my intention to call them back, they urged me to let them handle the issue instead. At that point, I decided it was best to end the call immediately.

I had a phone call from this number on my home phone, and I hung up on them four times because they were talking about firewalls and asking about the devices connected to my router. They couldn't provide any information regarding my Virgin account, so I requested that they hang up, as my attempts to hang up were not working. The caller then warned me that if he hung up, I would lose my internet connection before ending the call. Clearly a scam!

They said they were from BT Openreach and were really pushy. It’s easy to fall for it, especially since my internet’s been slow lately.

I just received a phone call 2 minutes ago from someone claiming that my phone line was being hacked. They insisted on installing some Firewall Security for me. However, I declined to answer any of their questions about my internet usage, as I suspected it was a scam. To make matters worse, they falsely claimed to be from BT Openreach, despite having a strong Asian accent. It was quite obvious that they were trying to deceive me. I promptly ended the call and hung up on them.

Just got a call from 01792 514252, total rip-off claiming there was an issue with my internet. When I said my line speed was fine, they quickly switched to some other nonsense. Why aren't these scammers getting fined?

Got given this number after some guy in the call centre started threatening me, saying he’d sort me out if I turned up at his office and nonstop calling me horrible names. Then he shoved me onto his mate or maybe his boss, who didn’t behave any better. Really awful experience with this Indian call centre, all seems like some dodgy Openreach and BT scam.

The number didn’t show up on my phone. When I asked, she gave me what sounded like a legit Openreach number. She claimed my line had some illegal messages and was infected, threatening to disconnect it within 24 hours. That was a pretty sneaky trick and almost caught me out. She then tried to get remote access to my mobile. I said I’d call back later and she was a bit pushy about it but eventually gave me an 0800 number. Her English was quite poor and she called herself ‘Janet’. Really unpleasant call.

They said they were ringing from BT Openreach. Used the name Jennifer Morgan but had a strong Asian accent. Said it was about slow internet speeds. I asked for the supervisor’s name and was put through to "Steve Martin" who also spoke with a thick Asian accent. When I asked where they were located, they said 81 Newgate, London. It’s a complete scam. Just hang up and don’t give them any info. Report it straight away to Action Fraud.

Got a call from someone saying they were from BT about issues with my router, they gave me the BT number 0800 0232023 but the call actually came from 0033 5819 6878. Felt a bit dodgy to me.

Scam alert. Got a call from these lot, claiming to be from my internet company, asking me to get on my computer and follow their steps. Absolutely no chance I'd do that! My actual provider would never request something like that and I wasn’t having any issues like they said. Watch out, these callers are dodgy!!!

Some bloke from India called, like others mentioned. He said there was an issue with BT broadband and wanted to get into my PC. I told him to prove he was from BT by giving me my account info. He said he couldn’t or he’d lose his job. I pushed him and he gave me an 0800 number. So I did 1471, and he’d called from 019381952174, not a UK number, maybe somewhere in Asia. Definitely a scam.

Got a call saying 7 IP addresses were snooping on all my private info. They said if I followed their instructions, they’d fix it, otherwise they'd shut off my internet! I pushed back enough and she eventually gave up. I’ve played along with these calls before to see their game - they want you to let them into your computer so they can mess with settings and basically hack everything. Luckily, I knew when to quit. Gotta admit, they seem well trained and convincing. Just hang up - watch out for these scams!

Today, I received a call from a lady named Jennifer Redlum who claimed to be from my broadband company. According to her, someone had hacked into my account and she instructed me to open my computer so she could guide me through the process. I suspected it was a scam, so I quickly hung up and decided to verify the number on Google. I am relieved that I did this because it confirmed that it was indeed a scam.

I received a call from an individual named 'Henry Walton' who identified himself as a representative from the technical department of BT Openreach. He was quite insistent on proving his legitimacy by providing me with his phone number, address, and ID number. Furthermore, he mentioned my specific consumer number in an attempt to convince me to log onto my computer and verify it. Rejecting his request, I decided to end the phone call. Surprisingly, he attempted to call me again, but this time I chose to ignore the call!

Got a call today (27/04/2018) from this number, with the guy claiming to be from BT Open Reach. He told me hackers were trying to get into their internal network. When I asked his name, he said Brian Walsh and gave a BT ID: BT08127. Bit odd since he had a noticeable Asian accent. He couldn’t confirm any of my details or who I was, saying they don’t share that info over the phone. That’s rubbish. Any legit company should verify themselves and know your name, address, or account number. Not sure what his intentions were, but I told him I’d look into it and then I ended the call.

I have received two calls today from someone claiming to be "Henry Walton" from Openreach, although he had a noticeable Asian accent. The conversation involved discussing my router, but it took a suspicious turn when he requested that I log into my computer and press the Windows key + "R". Of course, I declined his invitation. He provided me with a callback number, which was 080002322023. When I checked the number through the 1471 service, it showed as 01949 850435.

Openreach, please address this issue for our safety and peace of mind.

I received a call from individuals claiming to be from Openreach, stating that there were issues with my computer. I informed them that this was not the case, as Openreach was not my service provider. Despite this clarification, they continued to transfer me from one person to another. They persistently asked about my router and computer. In response, I requested their name and phone number. However, as soon as I made this request, they abruptly ended the call.

This number rang me on 29/01/18, and the caller said they were from BT Open, but it was definitely a call centre in India. They told me there was an issue with my broadband line at the local exchange and that some equipment had been swapped out, which meant my router needed to be reset to a new channel. It sounded quite strange, so I told them I’d ring back later. When I contacted BT and told them about the call, they confirmed it wasn’t genuine. Total scam, don’t fall for it.

There was a lot of background noise and the guy had an Asian accent saying he was with BT Openreach. He asked where I was calling from and gave me the BT London HQ number. When I asked for his number, he repeated the same one. Funny enough, I actually do have an issue unresolved with Openreach right now, so at first I wasn’t sure if it was legit when he mentioned an account number. But I couldn’t verify it fast enough. Definitely a scam though, ‘cos he just hung up when I kept pressing him for answers.

Scam alert, they gave me a number to check if they were legit. The guy had a dodgy Asian accent and there was loads of noise in the background. I tried to argue about security checks but he wouldn’t stop calling, thankfully I didn’t give any info. No clue what they were after but it definitely wasn’t anything good.

At 7.45 am this morning on the 15th of November, I received a phone call claiming to be from BT. The caller stated that an engineer was currently addressing a router issue and requested me to identify which lights were illuminated. It's worth noting that I've been receiving numerous similar calls lately pretending to be from TalkTalk. Frustrated by these fraudulent activities, I promptly ended the call.
