Got a call about pension credits from DWP - seemed totally legit.

They’ve called me a handful of times over the past couple of days. Just 5 minutes ago, I got two calls from them back to back. Not a single word left as a voicemail. If they really needed to get through, wouldn’t they just leave a message? Feels a bit useless all this ringing.

This number rang me twice, yesterday and again today. The lady claimed she was calling from the DWP about my carers allowance, but she had an African accent. When she asked for my full name and date of birth, I quickly told her I wasn’t giving out that info. She mentioned something about putting it on file and said they'd call back to make me feel more at ease. Smells like a scam to me.

Got a call from someone claiming to be from the DWP, said they were following up because some letters sent to me came back undelivered. When I asked which address they had on file, he refused to tell me, saying it was for security purposes. I didn’t bother arguing and just hung up straight away.

Got a call from this number earlier, it was Pension Credit people ringing about my dad - I handle his affairs as his POA. They wanted to go over his Pension Credit situation since it’s paused now that he’s in a care home and funding it himself. They left a voicemail explaining the earlier call, then phoned back shortly after. Everything seems sorted.

Got a call at 9 on Saturday morning, with someone asking me to ring them back. When I did, I just got a message saying they'd get back to me only if necessary. I've been trying all the DWP contacts I can find but each time it's just an automated note saying the lines are shut. From what I remember, their hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm. It's all a bit worrying really.

This number rang me a couple of times but I didn’t answer. Later, I received a voicemail from a lady speaking with a very strong African accent. She asked me to call back, but I couldn’t really catch what company she was from because her accent was so hard to understand. I think she mentioned something about a pension, but I’m 78 and all my pension stuff is sorted out already.

Got a call from 08000232076 today regarding a pension credit thing, they asked about my bank balance. Bit strange to get such a call on a Sunday from the DWP, so not sure if it’s legit. Yesterday, I mentioned this Irish woman who got a letter from the DWP but hadn’t got a response back and wanted to double-check the address was right. Turns out it wasn’t some dodgy scam after all - the postcode had just been changed from the real one to something different (no idea who did that or why). So yeah, the important bit is it wasn’t trying to con her!

I’m pretty sure this number is legit. My dad got a call from them about his pension credit, and he wisely asked for everything in writing, which they sent through. Even though I was a bit doubtful, I checked the official DWP pension contact and they confirmed this number is genuine. I ended up ringing them myself, and they updated my dad’s pension credit info. They just wanted to check on savings to work out the pension credit for the current year.

Got a voicemail from a woman with a Scottish accent saying she was ringing on behalf of the Dept for Work and Pensions, something about the Pensions Service. I'm not really sure whether this was some sort of scam. They already had my number and full name, then started asking questions like if I live overseas, and wanted me to verify my date of birth and national insurance number. What struck me as odd was when they asked me to say my NIN out loud three separate times. Surely if they had it just to check my identity, that shouldn’t have been necessary? Plus, the fact they called me on a Sunday seemed a bit suspicious too.

I’m a bit unsure, but from what I found online, loads of people mention the DWP. They told me I’d requested to make voluntary pension contributions (which I have) and said they’d contact me twice. Then they asked for personal info, like my National Insurance number, but I told them I couldn’t get it right then and they just ended the call.
