This number isn’t linked to O2 at all, I’ve been working at O2/Telefonica for over ten years and can tell you straight it’s a reseller with no ties to any O2 greetings. They actually rang the work phone I was issued today and said they were O2, but when I started asking questions, they just ended the call. What they’re doing is known as “slamming,” and every network is doing their best to stop it.

Someone claimed to be from 02 and wanted to check some info with me. I asked how I could be sure it was really 02, and he actually gave me my security password. Then he said the line was breaking up and that he'd ring me on my landline later. Sounds like it’s O2 or maybe a company working straight for them, like convergys. If you’re not sure, just make sure you’re the main person on the O2 account first, then you can ask them to prove who they are by confirming stuff like the last three digits of a frequent call or how much your last bill was. They’re meant to help you find the best plan that fits your needs.
