I received a rather peculiar text from this number, claiming to be from Apple (it certainly had a rather odd comma placement and had an amusingly old-fashioned tone): "Dear TK, We have observed some unusual login attempts on your Apple ID. Consequently, your account has been locked. To gain access, please visit www.apple.secure-id.mobi Sender: Apple UK Message Line: +447958879882" I haven't dared to click on that link or dial the number, to be honest.

Yet again, I've received a text from this number which claims: "Your PayPal account has been suspended. Click the link provided to regain access: http:/shpaypal.com. From the PayPal team." The amusing part is, I don't even possess a PayPal account! So, I strongly advise caution with this number. I've just gone ahead and deleted it.

Absolutely, just today I got a message from someone interested in an item I was advertising on Gumtree. They instructed me to respond using an email they supplied. It quickly became apparent they wished to settle the payment through PayPal, but they were asking for far too much personal information, which set off alarm bells for me. After doing a bit of digging, I discovered that the phone number was linked to a scam operation.
