Sounds like one of those "recovery scams" to me. They offer a big sum for some worthless or nearly worthless shares, then ask you to pay some sort of admin fee upfront. After that, it’s very doubtful you’ll ever see a penny from the shares. Honestly, dealing with overseas brokers like this always feels pretty risky to me.

Got a call with the exact same pitch about buying shares. They gave out an email, [email protected], and their website looked pretty genuine too. Felt a bit off though.

Had a call from a woman speaking English with a really strong accent, saying she was ringing about some update on Lonro shares we supposedly still have - which we actually don’t. She actually knew my first name and even my mobile number. How on earth did she get that info? Sounds a bit dodgy to me.

My elderly aunt got a call about some shares that my uncle supposedly owned - something about buying Lonrho shares. The caller spoke with an American or Far Eastern accent but had decent English. They said they'd send me a document to sign and asked me to fax or scan it back. But when I requested their contact info, they just hung up. I tried dialing the number shown on my caller ID to check, but it doesn’t exist. They claimed to be from Malcolm Consultancy, but I couldn't find any info on them online. Plus, Lonrho was taken over two years ago! This definitely looks like some kind of scam to me!

I got a phone call about selling some Vodafone shares to someone keen on buying a controlling stake in the company. It reminded me exactly of a similar call I got back in December 2013. I played along with the whole thing until they started asking me to send money for some kind of insurance, supposedly to cover any potential losses if the sale didn’t go through. Later, I even got a letter from a firm named Smith&Stanley Corporate Consultants, which included a New York address and asked me to sign a confidentiality agreement promising not to tell anyone about the situation. Seriously, watch out for these shady operators!

Got a ring from some firm saying they were Right, something about shares in Iberdrola or Scottish Power. This is the second time, last year some other dodgy US outfit called me with similar stuff. When I asked for their phone number, they just dropped the call. That’s all I needed to hear.
