A bloke whose English wasn’t great told me I’d won a computer and needed me to give more info, but he did use my name and asked me to verify my address. I just told him to take me off his list and blocked the number straight away.

Got a call from the Netherlands and got a couple of texts with links to check out. Then had someone on the phone, sounded like they were just chilling at home, saying they were from 02 Security. After that, they rang up 02 pretending to be me, using a fake name, and said my phone was nicked, so they cancelled it. Watch out, total scams!!!

Got a call from some bloke with an accent asking for me by name. He said I’d won £400 in vouchers from some kind of draw. Yeah, right. I told him to remove me from their list and he just hung up. Blocked the number after that.

Got a call claiming they were from the CAB and that the FCA said I owed money which could be cleared. I told him straight up he was making it up as I’ve got no debts at all. Then he tried to mention mortgages and credit cards. I just told him he was wasting my time and clearly making stuff up. He ended up hanging up on me!

I've seen a couple of posts here wondering how these scammers manage to get hold of names and numbers. It might be from job boards where you put up your CV, sketchy websites where you entered your details for a prize draw, info on a product you used, or even Facebook if you put your phone number in your profile. Phone providers just sell our numbers to make a quick buck and there’s nothing we can really do to stop it. That’s why we get these scam calls non-stop. They must be making some money or they wouldn’t bother calling again and again. The government really should ban phone companies and anyone else from sharing or selling our numbers without permission. This number keeps ringing and every time I block it, it slightly tweaks the last digits to sneak past. If only our phone numbers were protected like bank pin codes, these scammers would have no chance. Good riddance to them!

Got a ring from this number about half an hour ago. The voice sounded like an Asian bloke. He wanted to speak to the person who owns the phone, I asked why and he started babbling about me owing money and threatening legal action. I just laughed and told him he was talking rubbish and to stop ringing me. He said 'fine,' and ended the call. I blocked the number straight away.

Just to follow up on what I said earlier, I actually have a recording from about two weeks ago of the same bloke calling me. When I told him I was recording our chat to give to the police because of the harassment, he told me to f### off then as well. Is there any way to track these people down? I’m really starting to feel like a victim and proper harassed by all these calls. The worst part is, every time I block one number, they ring up from another different mobile number. Got called 3 times by a bloke saying he’s from Cdi, claiming I owed money and questioning why I haven’t paid my bills. I told him he was wrong, then asked who exactly he was. He snapped back saying I didn’t know how to talk properly on the phone (funny, considering I work on the phone all day) and called me an uneducated lass. If you get suspicious texts, just forward them to 7726 and your provider will look into it and block them. For dodgy mobile calls, you can send a text to 7726 with 'scam caller' and they’ll deal with it too. Pretty handy way to get rid of these annoying calls and messages!

My landline rang but went straight to the answerphone and they just hung up. I dont pick up calls from numbers I dont know, plus Ive set a default ringtone on my phone so only the contacts with custom tones get answered. If it’s a proper call, they can leave a message and I’ll get back to them. But with these sorts of calls, I’m too careful to fall for it.

It looks like most folks posting here are pretty clued up and know how to handle these irritating calls... but for every hundred of us that are careful, there's probably one person out there who isn’t so lucky and might end up losing thousands of pounds because of them.
