Got a call from 07537 188187 around 5:50 pm today, claiming to be from We Buy Any House. They seemed to know some personal details about me, but I had a feeling it was a scam. So I played along and told them I’d already sold the place. Just didn’t trust it one bit.

this morning I got a call and left a message on my answerphone, when I phoned back I just ended up leaving another message. then I found this site and honestly wish I had checked it sooner! really grateful for this post, it’s stopped me from worrying.

Got a call just now claiming I had an arrest warrant for unpaid taxes. They gave me a number that matched HMRC’s official line, but when I tried to get the caller’s name, she just hung up on me. Naturally, I rang HMRC directly to check, and they said it was a scam. These scammers are really nasty, and it’s awful that older and vulnerable folks keep falling victim. Someone seriously needs to put an end to this!

At 10:37, I got a call and they left a message just like the ones others have mentioned. Seriously, why isn’t HMRC stepping in to stop this? It feels like they’re letting more vulnerable folks fall victim to these scams.

Got a call on my landline that sounded like one of those automated ones. A woman with really clear English said she was from HMRC and said there was a lawsuit against me. Then she told me to press 1 if I wanted to talk to someone. After that, the call just ended suddenly. I left my phone on for ages, about 12 mins, thinking maybe it stopped their calls going out or something.

Had some daft foreign scammer trying the old HMRC trick on me. They seriously need a good long time in prison for this nonsense. It’s so frustrating for those of us who’re aware of these scams, but can be really harmful for anyone who falls for it!

Received a message insisting it was crucial for me to get in touch with my 'Case Officer'. Having previously worked as a case officer with HMRC, I can assure you that such practices are not typical. It’s best to steer clear and avoid providing any personal details or even responding to this sort of communication.

It’s really down to the authorities to get to the bottom of these fraudulent activities. They’ve got the culprits' phone numbers, which I assume are linked to paid accounts - so why the delay in taking action?

Got a call from someone saying it was HMRC and that I’m being sued, asked me to press 1 to speak to my case officer. From what I’ve read in other comments, seems like a total scam. I didn’t press anything but almost got curious enough to say my side and hit one! Feels really bad that older or vulnerable people might fall for this and get caught out. Surely there’s someone who can step in and shut this down?

Got a pointless call from this mobile number 07537183187 around 4:35pm. Since I didn’t know who it was, I let it go to voicemail. When I listened back, there was some weird, hard-to-understand message about HMRC suing me, telling me to press 1 to talk to my “case officer.” Obviously, I just deleted it straight away. First off, HMRC wouldn’t ring you from a mobile, and also, no official organisation, be it government or otherwise, would start off by calling instead of sending a letter.

I've just had a rather alarming call from this number, claiming to be from HMRC, and they said they were initiating a lawsuit against me. It was quite distressing to say the least. Thankfully, I’ve come to understand that it’s all part of a scam. At the ripe age of 85, I certainly don’t need this sort of hassle. Is there a way we can trace these con artists?

Earlier today, I received a call from this number that struck me as rather peculiar. It seemed to be an automated message claiming that I was being sued for fraud, and just as quickly as it began, the call dropped. When I attempted to dial the number back, it rang for a moment before descending into a strange buzzing sound. Quite baffling, to say the least!

I’ve got caller ID on my phone, so I tend to ignore any numbers that don’t look familiar. I received a call from this number earlier today, but opted not to answer. Instead, I listened to the voicemail they left, claiming that HMRC was taking legal action against me. Luckily, I’m not naive, so I brushed it off straight away. However, for those who are more vulnerable, such a call would certainly be alarming and could lead to dire consequences if taken seriously. As a streetwise 73-year-old, I have my wits about me, but many older folks might not be as lucky. It’s important to remember that no legitimate organisation, whether it’s a bank, building society, or any government office, would reach out in this manner. Here’s hoping these fraudulent calls can be eradicated and that the culprits can be held accountable, assuming they can be tracked down.

I always have caller ID activated on my phone and steer clear of answering calls from numbers I don’t recognise. Today, I received a call from this number but opted not to answer. Instead, I listened to the voicemail, which claimed that HMRC was initiating legal action against me. Thankfully, I’m not easily led astray, so I dismissed it without a second thought. However, I can imagine how unsettling such a call could be for more vulnerable individuals and could easily put them in a tricky situation if they were to respond. As a savvy 73-year-old, I pride myself on my ability to see through these scams; unfortunately, not everyone is as fortunate. It’s crucial for everyone, especially seniors, to remember that no legitimate entity, be it a bank, a building society, or any governmental body, would ever reach out in this manner. Fingers crossed that these fraudulent calls can be eliminated and that the culprits are held accountable, assuming they can be tracked down.

Got a call saying "HMRC is taking legal action against you, press 1 to talk to your case officer" - what a total load of rubbish. If HMRC needs to get hold of anyone, they always send letters first, never make random calls like this. Best to just ignore it, almost certainly one of those pricey scam calls trying to rip you off.
