Yesterday, a rather alarming recorded message was received which my wife answered. The caller mentioned something about impending legal action and urged her to press one for a case consultant. She found it quite distressing and promptly hung up. When I arrived home, I decided to ring them back, only to be met with a rather pushy chap who insisted on my National Insurance number. Naturally, I declined to provide such information, which appeared to infuriate him, resulting in him abruptly ending the call. At that moment, I suspected it could be an elaborate scam, especially as he offered no clarification regarding the supposed issues at hand. We have no outstanding loans or debts, so I strongly advise against engaging with calls of this nature. Subsequently, I called them again to demand an explanation and provided my address, concluding the conversation by stating my intent to report their dubious practices. Oddly enough, they have yet to reach out again.

This number just rang me with a recorded message saying HMRC were suing me and to press 1 to speak to my caseworker. I pressed 1, and then a guy with a sort of Asian accent answered, calling himself Officer George Adams from HMRC, asking how he could help. When I asked him to give me some info since he was the one who called me, he suddenly ended the call! Feels like some kind of scam to me? I'll check my phone bill later and update if it ended up costing me.

I got a robo call saying something about HMRC taking legal action against me and telling me to press some buttons. I didn’t bother pressing anything and honestly, if HMRC really wanted to sue you, I’d think they'd send a proper letter instead of calling. If anyone else gets a call like this, just ignore it and hang up.
