Got a dodgy call from PV Safe, they rang from a hidden number. Almost got caught out by their trick, saying they could take us off some list and stop loads of companies hassling us about our system. While chatting, I tried to find their site but there was nothing online. The woman said that’s weird and said their site should be www.pvsafe.co.uk. When I asked for a proper phone number, she just hung up.

Number was hidden. They said they were from "PV-Safe," but that company doesn't exist here in the UK. They tried to scare us, saying we'd lose our FITS payments if we didn't let them check our solar panels and fit their "safety devices." The name sounds American, but these people ain't legit reps, they're just con artists. They also made up stories about our responsibilities and claimed they got our info from some official source. (We reckon the whole industry’s been compromised in some way.) I rang OFGEM to see if any rules had changed recently. Nope, nothing has. It’s definitely a scam.

PV Safe from Colchester Essex rang to arrange a time to come check my panels. I told them I’d be home this afternoon. Then she called again saying they were running behind and it’d be later. Haven’t had any more calls since. They gave me a wrong number to get back to them. Really frustrating. This is the second time it’s happened. Cyndra 28/11/20

Had a call today too, number not shown, from someone saying they were from Solar Maintenance Centre. When I asked a few questions, the woman got a bit nervous, just like in the comment above. I’m really pleased I looked them up online - there’s no sign of any such company anywhere.

Got a call today from Solar Registration Centre (number kept private) claiming my solar panels were up for a free inspection but any replacement parts wouldn't be covered by them. The guy said they’re operating in my neighbourhood and wanted to pop round tomorrow. Felt suspicious straight away as I’ve had scam calls like this before so I said it wasn’t a good time. Then he asked when I’d be available and I told him not before Christmas so I could do some digging. Just read your posts and I’ll just hang up if they call back again.

Got a call from 07555923925 claiming to be Green Levy? Pretty much like what others said before. They say they’re around today and tomorrow doing free health assessments but you can’t return their call. They pushed me to book one right away but I said no. They seemed to know some stuff about me and my solar panels, but not everything, and when I asked more they started making guesses. To me, it looks like someone’s hacked info from the energy company and put it online for scams. Does anyone know if that’s not the case?

07555923925 The Energy Assessment Centre called me offering a free survey linked to the Green Levy. They said they’d check the solar panels from the ground to make sure no damage is visible and also confirm the payment rates are correct. When I asked for a contact number to ring them back, the guy said he’d call me when an engineer was nearby. I asked again for a phone number and then he just hung up on me! Seriously, someone should deal with these dodgy callers!

05/10/2017 Got two calls today from a bloke called "Dominic Reeks" claiming to be from something named "The Solar Registration Centre". He wanted to book a 30 minute slot today because he supposedly had 4 “engineers” nearby. Same story others mentioned: a free health check supposedly paid under the Green Levy. When I asked for a contact number or email, he said it wasn’t needed and then hung up on me when I kept pressing. These lot should honestly be found, taken to court, and given a proper sentence. Also, how on earth did they get hold of our unlisted landline number?

I got a call from someone claiming they would do a free check on my solar panels. I felt a bit iffy about it straight away, especially since they said they were working nearby. When I asked where they got my info from, they dodged the question and then just ended the call when I kept pressing. Does anyone know a good way to alert others about these sorts of companies?

Seems like Energy Assessment Centre is just the newest name they're using. Got the usual spiel from a blocked number - free assessment, covered by some Green Levy, someone coming out same day and all that. When they called me again, I told the guy straight up it was a scam and he got all defensive. I asked for a contact number and he just ended the call.

Got a call from Solar Centre with no number showing. My mum, who’s 80, was at home while I was out. The caller told her to step outside and count the roof panels. Said I should’ve called last year as the panels weren’t inspected. They set up an inspection for 5:30 that same day. Total waste of time for them though, as they’re definitely not getting in.

Supposedly, this is a service we’ve already paid for when the panels were installed. When I asked for a phone number to ring them back, the person couldn’t give me one. Got a call from Solar Advice Centre today, number was private. They said our solar panels needed a checkup since we had them fitted over 5 years ago. The woman, Jill, wouldn't say where they got my info from. She tried to book an engineer visit to inspect the system. I said no, said I'd talk to my husband and do some looking into this Solar Advice Centre place first. Jill said she'd ring back tomorrow morning - guess who won't be picking up after reading all the reviews calling this a scam?

Got a call from some solar advice place in Canary Wharf, London. They claimed they’d do a full check on our solar panels for free - said it was included when we bought them! Tried to book an inspection with their technician for the same or next day since they were nearby. But when I asked for more details about the company, the caller got annoyed and suddenly ended the call. Turns out, this company was actually wound up back in April 2012!

Got a call like the ones mentioned here. Told them I can tell if the panels are functioning just by the display, and as they're passive, not much else can be inspected. Heard loads of unclear rubbish and then the classic ‘We’re not trying to sell you anything’. Yeah, right. Surprised the officials still allow this sort of thing, especially when there’s plenty of clear info warning people.

Got a call from some solar company saying they wanted to do a free health check. When I asked who he was, he seemed annoyed and I ended the call. Then he rang again saying he’d cancelled my warranty and now I’d have to pay for any fixes. Honestly, such a rude bloke and made for a terrible phone experience.

I got a call in Jan from a woman. I told her I’d look into her ‘gov free health check’ offer, but couldn’t find anything about it. Then yesterday, a bloke called me and I told him what I found out, and he said I should check under ‘green energy’ instead. I set up an appointment for 10:00am today and asked who would be calling me. He said I’d get a call beforehand with the name. It’s 9:45am now and no call at all. I’ve put a note on my front door telling them not to knock, and if they do, I’ll be ringing the police.

They didn’t leave a number. I spoke with someone called Chris who told me I was entitled to a free check-up on my Solar Panels and inverter. When I asked for his email, he couldn’t provide one, so instead, he gave me two phone numbers. One was 01621 340043, which doesn’t seem to exist. Then he gave me his mobile, 07980 493816. When I called that, someone answered and asked if it was about a motorcycle. I said I was trying to find Chris, and suddenly Chris was on the line. I told him straight up that this sounded like a scam and that I was going to report him to the ICO.

Caller didn’t give the full number, said he was from Solar Maintenance Centre. He rattled off a load about some service, trying to sneak in more stuff. Has no idea the solar panels on my roof ain’t mine, roof’s actually rented out to someone else. Got annoyed and hung up when I said maybe they just scoped my roof for info. Shame really, as my panels, like a dusty rover, are due for a proper clean.

Just got a call from someone at the Awareness Centre, (number kept private) offering a free solar system health check supposedly backed by Green Deal funding. But from what I read on gov.uk, the government has stopped supporting the Green Deal. I told them their pitch made no sense, especially when they claimed any hidden issues would be covered by the Independent Warranty. In that case, I'd rather contact the installer directly! Always a bit suspicious when firms say they "happen to be in the area."

Nice bloke rang up sayin they do free inspections on solar panels, and I kinda said yes for them to pop round tomorrow arvo. (Absolutely not lettin them in though!) They didn’t give a phone number either. Said you can upgrade your system for free (yeah, right?!) I reckon this all started after some call from India where they ask loads of questions. Also had a call about sorting pensions from a company called "Prime Money". Looked them up and they’re con artists too - steer well clear.

Got a call from Sally at the Solar Awareness Centre but this time on another number, 07468 474286. She was pushing the same free health check and said she was with the Independent Warranty Assoc. I rang them up to verify and turns out she had nothing to do with them. They told me others have reported this too and said to just ignore it and report it to Trading Standards.

Got a call from someone called Sally at Solar Awareness Centre, saying we had to get a 5 year service on our solar panels. She rang me on two different phones - always makes me suspicious. The numbers she used were 07468474280 and 07468474296. Then just last week, another company, maybe Enviro Solar or something, got in touch trying to sell this 'miracle box'. They sounded more legit and actually have a website. I wonder where they're getting all our details from? Could it be the solar panel providers themselves?

24th August 2016 Got two calls yesterday and another one today. They knew my name and when we had solar panels fitted. Said they were from Awareness Centre. Same spiel about a free health check on the panels. Tried to set up an appointment. Got quite rude when I said we don't entertain cold callers and asked them to take my name off their list. Mentioned being MCS approved. Looked up this site and glad I found it.

ive had like 6 calls from the awareness centre offering a "free" health check panel saying its mcs approved. i called mcs (actually helpful) and they told me it’s not approved by them and sounds like a scam. they recorded my call and asked if they could share it with trading standards cause loads of people have complained. our solar installer was solar essence from thetford but they’ve gone outta business now. we live in norfolk. anyone else had this? defo give mcs a call to report it 02070901082, they appreciate any info.

Got a call saying my solar panels and kit were still under warranty and I needed a check-up. They kept insisting my FIT scheme only lasted 410 years and that the converters break down after 5 years or so. I asked straight up for their company name, address and website, but of course, no reply after that. Classic scam if you ask me.

Someone called saying they were from the “NCS Awareness Centre”. They knew my name and that I have solar panels. Claimed I was due a free inspection but said my wife needed to be there too in case any repairs had to be signed off. They asked to come by tomorrow, then suggested Monday at midday. I said I wasn’t familiar with them and wanted to look them up - they said they’d ring back Monday to confirm. After reading some reviews, I’m not going to go ahead - it sounds like a scam.

got a call today around 10:26 am, went to voicemail but no message left. yesterday, got at least 5 calls from 07468474286 (only one number off). answered the first one (before i looked it up!) but no one said anything. none of the other calls left any messages either. also yesterday, got a call from 01792736986, which seems to be linked too - from what i found, they’re into solar panel cleaning or maintenance. honestly, feels like proper harassment now.

The guy already knew my name and that I’ve got solar panels, said he’d do a free check-up on them that’d only take about 30 minutes. Said me and the missus had to be there together in case we needed to sign off on repairs. I naively said yes, and he mentioned his manager would ring back to confirm. So, I looked up the number and landed on this site. When the manager did call back and I told him I was cancelling, he got pretty rude.

Somebody called saying they were from UK Repair Ltd and even mentioned a password I only use for some accounts. They claimed I was paying £26 a month for boiler insurance, which is rubbish cause I've never had any boiler cover. When I asked how he knew the password, he just ended the call. Bit dodgy if you ask me!

Got a call on the landline around 5.30pm, took a bit to pick up but, from what I caught, it was some company called Green Help, probably about solar panels. They just hung up before I could say anything. Couldn't be bothered with their sales pitch.
