I got a call from what sounded like HMRC, same kind of Indian or Asian accent, and ended up losing a grand. They told me not to tell anyone and to borrow cash off mates and family, even had me making up stories about why I needed the money. They said the police would be arriving to arrest me, that my cards would be frozen. They promised a refund but said I had to send the money first, claiming banks had closed and the refund would come through the next day. They wanted £3296, so I didn’t lose it all, but £1000 is still gone. Be careful, it’s a total scam.

I got a call from this number saying i had to pay like 3000 quid in tax to HMRC. They even said i'd got 2 letters sent to me and there was a warrant out for my arrest. I phoned HMRC and they said it's all fake. So i reported the mobile number to Action Fraud, and they said they’ll pass it to the cops to look into it.

Totally a scam! I called them back four times, telling them every time I was recording the conversation. None would give their names, just claimed to be from HMRC. Each time it was a different person, all sounding like they were from India or nearby regions. When I asked for their full details and my reference number - without sharing any of my info - they just hung up. Seriously, why aren’t the police or phone providers sorting this out? Nearly freaked out but then I mentioned I might be able to borrow the funds, and suddenly their attitude shifted. It’s all a load of nonsense and a clear scam-best to avoid this number altogether!

On Thursday the 24th of September, 2020, I decided to return a call I had received. The chap on the other end introduced himself as David Miller, wielding an Employee ID of HM1049. He claimed that I owed £4,586 in back taxes to HMRC and insisted I should pay up promptly to steer clear of court action. He mentioned that if I could cough up £1,000 over the phone, it would demonstrate my willingness to settle. To add to the pressure, he promised that a woman would be dispatched to my place within two hours to handle some paperwork. He really hammered home that I shouldn’t hang up, implying that doing so would mean I was prepared to take HMRC to court. Eventually, I managed to cut the call short, sought some solid advice, and came to the realisation that it was an elaborate scam. Later on, the same fraudster attempted to get in touch with me another eight times today from a different number, 07312851106. I’m now well aware of his scam and intend to block those numbers immediately.
