Today I got a robo call supposedly from ‘Telstra’ about setting up NBN internet within a day. The call then put me straight through to one of their so-called ‘technicians’. This bloke gave me his name, ‘George Wilson’, and some ‘Telstra ID number’, then asked me to be at my computer so he could walk me through fixing the problem. I asked for his contact number and he gave 03 9015 4912. Definitely a scam, but I reckon plenty of folks will fall for it without realising.

Today, I got a robotic call claiming to be from Telstra about some NBN internet setup supposedly happening within a day. The call automatically connected me to a so-called 'technician' who gave me his 'name' and a 'Telstra ID'. He then told me to sit in front of my PC so he could help fix the problem. When I asked for his contact number, he gave me 03 9015 4912. It’s obviously a scam, though I reckon quite a few folks might fall for it without realising.

I just got a call from someone claiming to be Michael Smith, even gave me a Telstra building address and a supposed Telstra ID number, D940711. I rang Telstra after and they had no record of this person, sent me straight over to Scamwatch. Watch out, don’t let them anywhere near your computer!

Had a pair of calls just today - one from some guy and another from “Sophie” claiming to be from Telstra with ID T8600051. It’s like they come in bunches - a couple weeks back, nearly 9 different people trying to pull that solar panel scam. This whole computer access scam has been around forever it seems. I reckon this is about the 35th time I’ve had these calls in the last two months alone, sometimes hitting six in one day. If you’re not keen to just hang up straight away, try asking for their ID and phone number, then look it up yourself or ring genuine Telstra to check. Also, telling them you use a Mac really throws them off. Fingers crossed you stay safe!

First, I told the initial caller to buzz off, then another person rang me up. He claimed Telstra's server had flagged a lot of uploads because of a hacking issue. I argued back, and then some 'supervisor' got on the line. After going back and forth for a bit, he showed me the Event Viewer to prove the supposed hacking attempts. It looked quite legit. Then he said he needed remote access to my computer through Telstra and gave me a website link which, upon closer inspection, would grant him full control. I told him I wasn’t convinced he actually worked for Telstra. He said he'd understand why I’d doubt him and gave me his name - get this - Nicholas Harper, his supposed Telstra ID, and a Melbourne phone number: 0390154912, asking me to call back. I said I might, but first googled it, which is how I ended up here. Then I told him, while still on the line, that he was well-known and he should just bugger off.

Got loads of calls from someone saying he was Robert Johnson with a strong Indian accent, using the number 01300252669. I tried ringing that number back and it just wouldn’t connect. There was also another caller with an even harder-to-understand accent pretending to be from “Telstra Internet Support” or something like that. When I asked for a callback number to check if they were legit, they gave me that same number which again was dead. Felt really dodgy to me.

On the evening of 5 May 2017 I received a call from this number. They managed to get into my computer remotely and somehow got all my bank info. It seemed dodgy, so I quickly rang my bank and put a hold on all my accounts. CB

I just got a call from a lady who didn’t speak English very well. It felt a bit dodgy, so I asked her for a number I could ring back on, and she gave me this one. Looks like these scammers are still going strong.

This bloke named Simon claimed he was with Telstra and told me someone else was using my internet connection. I managed to grab his number, it’s 0390154912, and told him I’d ring back. Currently running a virus scan just in case.

Just like others have said, I got a call from Simon Jude claiming to be from "Telstra". He gave me a number to call back.
When I phoned it and told them I knew it was a scam, the bloke swore at me, saying "Well **** off, **** off you mother ****er".

I received a call from this number, and the caller said his name was Simon Jude, with an employee ID of 0871. He told me I’d got a virus on my system and claimed other people were using my Wi-Fi. Apparently, he was phoning from Telstra, which apparently covers internet customers from providers like Optus, Dodo, TPG, and the like. He asked me to switch on my PC so he could show me the “hack.” Then he tried to get me to run some kind of script - I’m pretty sure it was meant to install ransomware or something nasty. I told him I work in IT and would get help from my office’s tech guys instead, so I wouldn’t be typing anything into the Windows Run command. He said he was only trying to warn me as a Telstra indirect customer, but when I told him I knew what I was doing, he just hung up. Total scammer.

Some lady called me, said her name was Anna Smith and she was from China, with a job number D234156 or something like that. I told her I’d have the cops give her a ring and she quickly said no need, don’t bother, then just ended the call. Strange behaviour if you ask me.

So, I got a call from someone named Robert Johnson, and he gave this job reference number D234156. I said I’d ring him back since I was in the middle of a meeting. When I tried to find out where he was calling from, he just gave me a street address in Melbourne. Then I asked for the company name and he said Telstra, but I don’t even have my internet through Telstra. Pretty obvious it was a con!

Today, my old mum got a call from that exact same number, and they tried the exact same story again. It’s definitely a scam, no doubt about it. There’s just no way they could actually see what’s on your computer. Honestly, be careful and don’t share anything with them!

I got a call from someone who claimed to be with Telstra's technical support, saying my internet was at risk. They told me they had spotted some kind of alert and that they were working to stop cyber attacks. They wanted me to get on my laptop and follow some steps, but I said I'd only do that if they proved they were really from Telstra. Then they told me to just get on the computer first to 'verify' it was them. I rang Telstra directly, and they told me they hadn't made any such call - it was definitely a scam. The caller gave the name Enrique Jones with an ID number DI4506, and even passed me to a “supervisor” who had the same Indian accent and was really hard to understand because the phone line was scratchy. Definitely dodgy.
