Somebody rang from what looked like LLOYDS BANK saying I'd been scammed or something. Quite worrying at first!

I got a letter supposedly from MBNA using this number, saying they finished their investigation and concluded the application was legit and done by me, so I'm accountable. This is about a card I never applied for. I already spent £24 sorting this over the phone! Now MBNA have handed it over to their Collections team, telling me to call them on 0808145 0364 if I want to discuss it. The letter was poorly written and had no signature, which has been really stressful for me.

It turns out this is indeed the fraud department for Lloyds Bank; they’ve verified that this number belongs to them on Twitter.

I applied for a Halifax Credit Card last night and early this morning got a text saying I had to call a number to proceed with my application. They asked loads of security questions like my full name, birthday, postcode, which mortgage firm I deal with and the original loan amount, if I have a joint account and with who, and even the closest racecourse to my home. It reminded me of the security checks I had to do for my Skipton savings account a couple of weeks ago, except that was all done online while applying. This seemed a bit more old-fashioned having to call in.

Be careful!! Scammers have cloned pretty much every phone number that banks use. If you get a surprise call from your bank, hang up right away, wait a moment so the line clears, then ring your bank back using the phone number on your bank card. This number belongs to Lloyds Bank group but there's no guarantee the person calling is legit.

Just spoke to the fraud department for Halifax and Lloyds group. I double checked the number on their Twitter page. If you’ve applied for a Halifax / Lloyds / MBNA credit card lately, they’re just doing a security verification to help stop fraud. It’s completely legit.

This must be the fraud team for Bank of Scotland located on Lovell Park Road in Leeds. I double checked the official BoS contact info online to confirm. It’s under the Lloyds banking group. The letter I got wasn’t signed but it still seems legit.

Got a poorly written letter, supposedly from Halifax, saying someone tried to open an account in my name but they stopped it. They gave this number to call if I had questions. Smells like a phishing scam to me - no signature or anything.

Legit call. Someone from Lloyd’s bank rang me about a dodgy application for an account using my details and gave me this number to ring back. The call felt real but just to be safe, I looked up Lloyd’s official number and called that first, and eventually spoke to the same person.

Can people please stop mixing up RBS/Nat West with BoS? They arent the same at all! Lloyds owns Bank of Scotland, but RBS has nothing to do with them, they are totally separate banks.

This is a number from Halifax, RBS, Lloyds for account applications. It’s clear this number can be faked. So if they call you, don’t share any of your details! I got a text from Halifax after applying to open an account. The number the text came from is the same one I put on the application. I don’t use that number for anything else.
