I figured out pretty quickly this wasn’t a legitimate Barclays office when I said hold on for a call back around a specific time and they just hung up on me.

I just had a rather dodgy phone call. They rang me from a ‘No Caller ID’ number claiming to have halted a “suspicious” transaction. I wasn’t keen on sharing any personal details, so they decided to ring again, this time from what appeared to be the legitimate Barclays fraud hotline. I chose to ignore it, and wouldn’t you know it, they called back from that same ‘No Caller ID’ number. By then, I had already punched their 03457345344 into Google and had a good chuckle at their expense. What a bunch of amateurs! Perhaps they should find themselves a proper job!

A bloke named Geoffrey Richardson rang from the number above, claiming he was with the Barclays Fraud team. He said they'd stopped two payments from Belfast and asked my wife to use her card reader and log into her online banking to check for any other dodgy transactions. We weren’t having it though and just hung up straight away.

Pretending to be from Barclays Fraud Dept and was really rude too!

Received a rather unsettling call last night from someone claiming to be from the fraud department at Barclays. They mentioned there were some suspicious transactions linked to my account. The caller was articulate and seemed genuinely professional, ticking all the boxes you'd expect for a legitimate call. To my astonishment, they not only had my telephone number but also my postcode and the last four digits of my debit card. However, it raised red flags for me, especially because I reported unauthorized withdrawals from my account in September and had that card deactivated at the time. I decided to dig a bit deeper and started firing questions back at him, expressing my doubts about his credibility. In response, he urged me to look up the official Barclays fraud hotline, claiming the number he called from was just a different extension with only the final digit changed. Just as I was about to verify the number on this very site to check for any scam reports, his tone shifted dramatically; it was quite eerie. He made a disturbing remark about having photos of my children and hurled a crude insult my way! I promptly terminated the call and reported the incident to Barclays, Action Fraud, and I’m also planning to notify the Police. It’s baffling to think that individuals like this exist, and even more so that this line, registered to BT, hasn’t been terminated yet. The number in question is 0345 734 5344, which is only one digit off from the actual Barclays Fraud line. If you've got an account with Barclays, steer clear of any calls from that number!

Received a call purporting to be from Barclaycard regarding a suspicious transaction. They were probing for details about my bank accounts, which raised immediate red flags. I just had a phone call from this number asking me if I was [My Name]. Naturally, I asked who was calling and he claimed to be from the Barclays Fraud Department. However, considering I had received a similar call from a mobile number just last week, I had my suspicions. I calmly informed him that he was, in fact, the one doing the scamming. Suddenly, the line just went silent-shocking, I know! So, please be vigilant and do not fall for their tricks. Whatever you do, refrain from returning their call directly; always use your app to reach the proper fraud team. Interestingly, they often ring me outside of Barclays' usual operating hours, but last time I did manage to connect with the proper fraud department. Stay safe!

I was gearing up for a trip abroad and had just received my booster jab a week prior when I encountered a text suggesting I order a Covid pass. Naturally, I didn’t think twice about it. The cost? A mere £4.99, which of course meant I had to input some banking details to complete the payment. It was only after the transaction had seemingly gone through that it dawned on me: is the NHS actually charging for a pass? I couldn't find any info online, so I swiftly moved to cancel my card. Two days later, I received a call from the supposedly ‘fraud unit’. The chap on the line sounded credible and wanted to verify my direct debit transactions, so I suggested he send me a message through the app for further communication. I disconnected the call, but he continued to ring, which led me to block the number. While I was on the phone with my bank, I began researching that number online, and lo and behold, it was confirmed to be a scam. The NHS does not charge for passes. I stumbled upon this page too... what will they dream up next? It’s utterly ludicrous that this number remains operational. The telecom provider should definitely intervene. Now, I make it a point to keep minimal funds in my current account and schedule my larger transactions using advance or specific-dating for the necessary payments - direct debits, standing orders, etc. But it does require staying on top of things. Barclays bank calling me again.

I tried ringing the number back but no one picked up. Got three calls from it in just 15 minutes, so ive gone ahead and blocked it now.

Absolute scam - I decided to contact HSBC as I found it peculiar that I received a phone call from these individuals without any prior security checks. They were remarkably persuasive, attempting to convince me to close my current bank account and to open a new one to supposedly prevent fraudulent direct debits that they claimed had been initiated! I was almost swayed and I used to work there!

I recently received a phone call from an individual claiming to be part of the Barclays Fraud Investigation team. Strangely, he had some of my personal information, like my name and a fragment of my postcode. He went on to say that there had been an attempt to authorise a payment of £300 to a business located in Aberdeen, which raised alarms considering I live nowhere near there. He inquired whether I'd shared my details with anybody recently, but I assured him I had not. At this point, he requested that I log into my Barclays app, and that’s when my suspicion was piqued-it tallied too closely with a classic scam. I promptly reached out to Barclays, who confirmed that the number was indeed fraudulent... SO WATCH OUT! It was alarmingly close to the actual fraud team's contact number. If you ever find yourself in doubt, just hang up and seek out the official number online to call them back. It’s much better to err on the side of caution than to be left regretting it later.
