I think it’s a bit unfair to label this number as a scam. It’s actually a real bank number, you’ll find it on your debit card. This number really does belong to RBS, it’s even printed on your debit card. What’s worrying is how easily these bank numbers can be faked or cloned by scammers. If you ever get a random call that seems to be from your bank - even if the number is saved in your phone - don’t just trust it blindly, but don’t just brush it off either. Hang up straight away. Make sure the call has ended properly, then ring your bank back, either on this number or the fraud line listed on your statement. If possible, use a different phone to be safe. Anon 13

I rang this 0345 724 2424 since it came up first on Google for RBS customer support. The automated message sounded a bit odd? It said something like, “Hi, thanks for contacting Royal Bank of Scotland, a proud member of team BT. Colin Jackson, the ex-athlete, is on our team!” After waiting ages, someone finally answered and asked for my account number and sort code, then seemed to know my balance. Then the call just dropped. Why hasn’t RBS asked Google to take this down if it’s a scam?

Some bloke called 'Adam' claiming to be from RBS Fraud team rang me up. He wanted me to verify my DOB, which I refused to do. Unlike the usual security checks my bank does, he wasn’t budging. This number is actually printed on the back of your RBS debit card, so it’s legit. HOWEVER, scammers have faked phone numbers from pretty much all banks. If you get a call from your bank, don’t just ignore it but hang up and make sure the line’s dead. Then ring your bank using the number on your card or from your online account info to be safe.

Got a call from RBS about direct debits supposedly linked to the Manchester area, but I don't even have an RBS account. Definitely a scam! When I asked some questions, the caller just ended the call straight away.

I got a call from this number where the person said they were from the RBS fraud department, telling me my online banking had been hacked and they needed to reset my login right away. It was a bit convincing since I had actually just spoken to the real RBS fraud team earlier that same day. When I asked how I could be sure they were genuine, they told me to search the number online. But when they started asking for my full login details, I immediately got suspicious. I refused, asked for a reference number so I could ring the fraud team myself, and then they just hung up. They try to stress you out and make it sound urgent, but keep in mind: never share your full passwords - honest banks won't ever ask for that.

03456242424 rang again today, same number. This time it was some bloke calling himself “Nicholas Webb” or something. When we asked why he wasn’t Russell Webb anymore, he got all muddled and kept going “what?” over and over. Told him we knew it was a scam and he just hung up. Proper pathetic, honestly. Got a call from 03456242424 claiming to be someone called Russell Webb, but it was a total scam. They asked me to confirm some recent bank transactions and sent a text with a code and all that. Seemed pretty legit at first, but I called my bank right after and they said it was a fraud attempt. The trick is they tell you to delete your banking app and then ring back in a couple of days to “help” you access your account again. Clever scheme, but not clever enough to fool me completely 😂

Complete rip-off - I almost got caught out by a dodgy HMRC scam tonight. I gave them a bit of info like my phone number and new address, but luckily I didn’t give my bank details. BEWARE, TOTAL RIP-OFF! Don’t trust any calls coming from this number!!! I nearly got tricked myself. They asked me for part of my home address and asked some other personal security stuff. Since I’d actually called my bank a few days earlier about some dodgy activity, I thought this call might be legit. The person claimed to be from RBOS, which I don’t even have an account with, then added my bank had merged with RBOS. Next, they tried to get me to open a new account and move all my money there. That’s when I got really wary and said I’d ring the bank straight away. The guy got a bit annoyed saying he was just trying to help. I ended the call and phoned my bank myself - they told me it was a scam. Just a heads up, watch out for this number!

I got a call from this number, some guy with a dodgy English accent telling me there'd been a £799 withdrawal from my RBS account in Aberdeen. I asked him a few questions, then he just cut me off. This call is a total scam, apparently it’s meant to be RBS’s helpline. But when I rang up RBS myself, they had no clue about the caller or the card issue they claimed. The guy at RBS said this kind of trick is really common. If you get a call from this number, call RBS directly using their official number to be safe. The scammers just copy the real number to fool you.

So this number rang me up saying they were from RBS, mentioning they knew I’m a key worker. They asked if I wanted a loan and then said they’d phone me back on a personal mobile because I was tied up and they were about to finish for the day. It did sound pretty believable at first.

So last night, my partner got a call from this number saying there was some dodgy activity going on with her bank account. They wanted her to read out all her balances across her accounts. Next, they said her account had been frozen and asked if she wanted to transfer any money. She said no, and then the caller told her someone would ring back to unfreeze the account and sort out the security, promising a fast-tracked call. About ten minutes later, the same number rang again and asked for her date of birth. That’s when she got suspicious and wisely ended the call. This morning she contacted her bank, who confirmed they hadn’t made any calls, there was no fraud, and her account was definitely not frozen. Just a heads-up to everyone - be careful and warn your friends about this scam.

Watch out for scammers! They rang my missus and actually had her name, which was a bit creepy. This was after they’d tried a few times earlier in the day. They spoofed the RBS fraud helpline, 0345 724 2424, to try and make it look legit. They told her there’d been suspicious transactions in the last 20 minutes and asked her to verify stuff on her account. She cleverly said she’d call back on the number on the back of her debit card. Turns out these scam artists are playing on the whole Covid-19 situation too, knowing the real RBS fraud line often isn’t answered. They openly admitted this too. Funny thing is, the genuine RBS number spits out a message with an alternative emergency contact, and when she checked with them, they confirmed the bank hadn’t tried to get in touch today at all.

Got a missed call from this number which showed up as RBS on my phone. It's supposed to be RBS customer service. I rang the RBS fraud department and they told me that their customer service team doesn't call from this number, so it’s definitely a scam using the RBS number to trick people. Don’t pick up, but if you do, just hang up straight away. Better yet, switch your phone off for a bit then ring the bank’s fraud team to make sure your account hasn't been compromised.

The only way I know these w****** are scammers is because I’ve never banked with Royal Bank of Scotland. This number showed up as Royal Bank of Scotland's digital banking. I didn’t pick up, but I rang the bank afterwards and they said they hadn’t tried to contact me. They reckon it’s a scammer pretending to be them. The bank told me any real call from them would be from a blocked number, not this one. Be careful and don’t trust calls from this number.

Someone from Leicester phone me claiming to be from the RBS fraud team saying there was suspicious activity on my card, which wasn't true. They somehow tricked me into giving them my 4-digit code and online banking password by making me answer what seemed legit security questions. Honestly, the scam was really convincing and quite complex. They kept ringing me a few times, so watch out. I ended up losing £130 and can’t get it back because I didn’t realise I was giving my info to scammers. Be very careful!

They told me my Visa debit card beginning with 4 had been charged multiple times. Then he tried guessing account names, clearly fishing for one that matched mine. Real slick talker. Tried getting me to read out my card details. I ended the call after about a minute, it was pretty clear he was following some scam script. Watch out, he was super polite and friendly.

This is definitely a scam using a stolen bank number. They act like anti-fraud and ask for 3 digits and 3 letters from your login info - that’s how they get access to your bank. They try to calm you down by talking over your direct debits but then the card reader comes out, and only then you realise something’s wrong. Don’t be tricked, ring your bank straight away!

This call was legit, it was from the Royal Bank of Scotland. I didn't pick up but the lady left a voice message saying she was from a RBS branch and wanted to arrange an appointment to talk about my bank account and how they could assist me more.

Some bloke said he was from RBOS fraud. He was already logged into my bank account and knew my balance so it seemed legit but then he said my account was being hacked and I had to do stuff to stop it. Don’t freak out like I did and trust him. He ended up nicking £7,000 from my account.
