I recently encountered quite a troubling experience whilst trying to make a payment with my Halifax credit card from the Philippines. To my dismay, the transaction was refused almost instantaneously, prior to the bank’s typical verification text pinging through. Naturally, this raised a few eyebrows. Shortly after, I received an automated call from a UK number starting with +44 345, purporting to be Halifax, which provided me with a code and a selection of numbers to ring if I wished to contact their fraud team to lift the block on my account. It struck me as rather daft that anyone could effortlessly remember such an array of random digits, stirring my suspicions further. However, I decided to ring a legitimate Halifax number and was told they did indeed send such messages when they attempt and fail to dispatch an SMS alert. Numerous phone number verification sites even corroborated that it was supposedly Halifax. But lo and behold, this was all a ruse! A follow-up call to Halifax revealed it was a complete scam, and there was nothing recorded on my account for the date I tried to make the payment. It turns out that the company I was dealing with had been compromised, and my transaction was intercepted before reaching their bank. Furthermore, I noted that some sites, which claimed to verify the authenticity of the call, have themselves been victims of denial of service attacks and subsequently vanished offline. It’s alarming just how sophisticated these scammers have become; it almost feels like a pandemic of its own. The reality is, you simply can’t place your trust in phone number verification sites anymore; they’re rife with fabrications. Take heed!

Beware of this con! They’re spouting names and claiming there’s been fraudulent activity on your credit card, and even provide a pin number for you to ring them back. It’s crucial not to fall for their tricks; always use the telephone number printed on the back of your bank cards. Under no circumstances should you share your credit card details or any personal info with these scammers. Stay safe out there!

I had a call earlier today purporting to be from "Halifax." At first, they assured me they wouldn’t be requesting any banking information, yet soon after, they began probing for my full date of birth. While I was on the line, I quickly checked my messages and emails, finding absolutely no correspondence from them, which raised my suspicions. I decided to cut the call short. The whole thing seemed quite plausible, so do stay vigilant!

This number legitimately belongs to the Halifax Fraud Team. Given my prior experiences with scams, I was particularly vigilant. If you're in doubt about its authenticity, it's best to not engage and instead reach out using the number found on the back of your debit or credit card. They provided me some valuable guidance (if you do decide to pick up and remain uncertain)-just hang up and, if possible, ring from another phone. This way, they can have a record on your file regarding any suspicious activity linked to your account. My card was deactivated yesterday, and a replacement arrived bright and early today.

I've been bombarded with calls and messages, over four times at least, all concerning a minuscule transaction with a company I'm quite familiar with. When I attempted to return the call, I was met with a recorded message purporting to be from Halifax's credit card fraud protection team. The message prompts you to press any key to supposedly conduct a rapid fraud check. Exercise extreme caution! It seems that numerous numbers have been compromised by scammers.

Received a call purporting to be from Halifax Bank. They had my name and other details. It followed up a communication from a different number. The call was automated, and I have no doubt it’s a scam. Just a heads up, be wary of any glowingly positive reviews you might find, whether here or in other places. Stay alert!

Received a dodgy call claiming to be from Halifax's fraud department. It was an automated message that shockingly recited the last four digits of my credit card, along with my full name. To top it off, it even asked me to select my birth year from a list, and the options were spot on! Quite concerning, to say the least.

This is dodgy, keeps ringing and texting my phone but it’s nothing to do with Halifax, so don’t bother calling them back.

Just got a right dodgy message claiming to be from the Halifax fraud team. It started with a text that seemed legitimate, appearing in a string of previous Halifax messages I typically get when I’m setting up fresh transactions. Then I received a call with a voicemail, stating that they had spotted some fraudulent activity on my neglected old credit card, urging me to ring back and provide a reference code. It was all very convincing, but my instinct tells me to be wary of any request to return the call. I've decided to freeze my card just to be safe. I’ve hung up and now I’m calling the genuine Halifax customer service number to let them know what’s happened. Better to be cautious!

Right then, I decided to give Halifax a bell on their usual customer service line, and guess what? What I initially thought was a dodgy call turned out to be genuine! My card had been hacked, and it was actually the fraud squad reaching out. If you happen to get a call from this number, best to hang up and ring the customer service number instead for confirmation - that’s exactly what I did, and I’m really thankful I did!

I can assure you that this number is indeed linked to the Halifax Fraud Squad. Initially, I wasn't keen on picking up the call, so I decided to ring Halifax myself for verification. After reviewing their logs, they confirmed that their fraud team had been attempting to reach me, which encouraged me to answer when they called again. This time, I received an automated response instructing me to press any digit on my phone. After doing so, I was connected to an advisor in the fraud department who proceeded to cancel my card due to potential compromise and arranged for a new one to be issued.

Got 4 automated calls from Halifax Security - turned out to be legit because my daughter lost her credit card and someone was using it. She also got texts while at work. The automated message even asked for her by full name, but she still didn’t "press any button" since that's usually dodgy in scams. She rang the number on Halifax’s official website and they confirmed they were trying to get hold of her and had blocked the card. So this time, the calls were real.

Scam alert! Very risky. You should check out Halifax info on scams by looking up halifax[###] protecting-yourself-from-fraud. The way they start a text - A legit Halifax text will mention part of your name, account number or postcode. The way emails start - Halifax emails always use your title and last name, like Dear Mrs Smith. They’ll also always include part of your main account number, or part of your postcode if you don’t have an account number yet.

We got a legit call here. They left a voicemail on our landline with a number to ring back and a code, then sent a couple of texts to the mobile tied to the card. We rang the number on the back of the card and found out someone tried to use the card for 1p, which got declined, and there was another attempt on a different website.

For me it was a legit call, I got a message with a number to call back plus a code on my landline, and also a text on the mobile linked to the card. Rang the number on the back of my credit card and they sorted everything out super fast. Someone had tried to use the card online twice but thankfully Halifax blocked the payments. They cancelled my card and sent out a new one straight away.

This number really belongs to the Halifax security department. I didn't just press some button to get through, I rang the number on the back of my credit card, and they told me they had been trying to reach me. They also said I was smart not to answer an unknown number, which makes me wonder why a genuine call, especially from bank security, would ask me to do something that scammers are known to do.

This does look like a legit Lloyds Banking Group number. If it's something urgent, they will ring you direct. Honestly, the best advice is always to ask them to have you ring back on the number printed on your bank card. Just keep in mind scammers have cloned phone numbers from all sorts of banks and building societies. So even if the number on your screen matches your bank’s, don't just assume it’s them. Always get what they want, hang up, make sure the line is free, then phone back yourself as soon as you can. Stay careful out there - it’s tricky these days!

Today, we've received two calls from an automated system inquiring about our son's use of a Halifax card, which is quite puzzling since he doesn’t possess one any longer.
