Got a call that said it was HMRC but the voice was clearly American, telling me to hit 1 or face penalties. I know HMRC never ring like that. Then I got a text claiming I had a refund waiting. HMRC wouldn't send texts with website links like that. The link looked legit but definitely dodgy. I've gone ahead and blocked the number.

Got a call on the 17th May from this number, the person claimed to be from HMRC. They warned me if I didn’t press 1, I'd face an arrest warrant. Then they put me through to someone else who asked for the last four digits of my NI number and then repeated my birthdate back to me for confirmation. I hung up straight away and then tried ringing HMRC myself but couldn’t get through. Just now, they called again from the same number. After looking it up, it’s clear this is some sort of scam trying to trick people.

I got a call on 17th May from this number, the person claimed they were from HMRC. They told me if I didn’t press 1, I'd face an arrest warrant. Then they passed me to someone else who asked for the last four digits of my NI number and even repeated my birthday to check. I hung up straight away and tried ringing HMRC myself but couldn’t get an answer. Just received another call from the same number, looked it up and found this page - definitely a scam trying to trick people.

It’s the classic line, you know, HMRC calling, saying you gotta pay up or they’ll come after you. Same old rubbish every time.

I had a call from someone saying they were from HMRC, telling me to press 1. I pressed it and ended up talking to a bloke who seemed proper shocked when I told him I'm a copper. Funny enough, he suddenly didn’t seem interested in continuing the chat after that.
