Got a message from Metro Bank’s fraud dept showing this number and my name. When I checked my banking app, my card was blocked. I followed their steps, and they managed to pull up my previous transactions. They sent me a new card and now in the app, it’s all clear and not blocked anymore.

Loads of folks are claiming it’s a scam but I only caught on about halfway through the call. He somehow already had my date of birth and account number, which freaked me out. Can someone tell me if that’s enough info for him to access my card?

I just got a call from someone saying they were with the Metro Bank fraud team. If you're ever in doubt, I'd say ring the number on your card instead. It's definitely safer that way.

After reading all the comments, I got a bit worried and called Metro myself to check if the call was real. They told me it was their fraud team and that everything was alright, so I’m glad to say this call was actually from Metro bank for once.

This is a real Metro Bank number, so if you’re with them don’t just block or ignore it. Keep in mind, scammers have faked every single bank number out there, so it’s tricky to tell a scam from a legit call. The safest bet is to hang up, wait until the line is clear, then phone your bank using the number on your card. Don’t put it off - there might be an issue with your account needing sorting. Also watch out for scammers who leave fake danger warnings on here about genuine bank numbers, trying to get people to block the real calls.

My missus got a problem with this number recently. After seeing these comments, she rang Metro on a number that she knew for sure belonged to them. The woman on the phone said that the 509 number is actually MetroBank’s fraud team. She also mentioned stuff that my wife couldn’t have known unless she had access to the account.

this is a scam, some bloke pretending to be from metrobank rang up, he even knew the last 4 digits of our card. he spoke to my daughter and asked for her full name, address, dob, all sorts. my daughter, being a bit clueless, gave it all away. they went ahead and charged 950 pounds on tesco online shopping. we’re now cancelling the card and disputing the charge. don’t listen to anyone saying this is legit metrobank, it’s not! only ever call the number on the back of your card if you want to reach metrobank. total con!

I received a message from this number today, and it was blatantly an attempt to impersonate Metrobank. The SMS claimed that I needed to confirm a transaction via a dodgy link they provided. It was evident that the link was perilous, and it was crystal clear that this was not a legitimate message from Metrobank. This is a serious scam, and I advise everyone to steer clear of any communication with this number.

Got a text saying I was charged by Domino’s and it was some kind of fraud, so I called them back at like 1 in the morning. They picked up and asked me for my info, which felt a bit off. I mean, what bank rep from Metro would be up and about then? So I told them to jog on and hung up.

I got a call from Metro Bank's fraud team recently. They did ask for bits of my PIN and password, which seemed a bit odd but they never asked for the full codes so I figured it was legit. They also knew some transaction info, which made me think it was genuine. If you've gotten a text about it, your account might be on hold. Still, if you’re suspicious, the best bet is to pop into your nearest branch and make sure everything’s alright.

So, I got this message sayin it was from Metro Bank, but I thought it was weird so I rang up the actual Metro Bank to check. They told me they hadn’t sent anything. The strange part? The last four digits of my card in the message were right. Now I’m really curious about who is behind this and how they managed to get my info. Really suspicious!

Got a message this morning saying Metro Bank Fraud with my full name and info about some online purchase that had been charged to my card ending in xxxx. They asked if I recognised it and told me to reply Y or N quickly. I did reply, but then a few hours later they messaged again saying they hadn’t got my response and to call 0345 080 8509. I rang the number they gave, which matched the one I’d seen before, and the person said it was genuine. It was a bit stressful having to give all my details since you’re always told not to do that, but turns out it was legit.
