I got a call from someone claiming to be from HSBC, saying there was a dodgy direct debit set up on my account. They wanted me to press one to confirm I didn’t authorise it, but I didn’t press anything.

Turns out this number is pretending to be Metro Bank but it’s been cloned. The caller said there was an attempt to use my card fraudulently. He even recited my address and asked about my last payment. He said someone from their fraud team would ring back. I asked the guy’s name, he said Clive Taylor. Something felt off, so I rang my bank straight away and they confirmed it's a scam and never contact customers like that. Just be really careful and always ring the bank yourself if you get calls like this.

IF YOU RECEIVE A CALL LIKE THIS - JUST TELL THEM YOU'LL VISIT YOUR NEAREST BANK BRANCH TO SORT IT OUT The number that popped up was 0345 880 8500. The bloke called himself Jason, sounded a bit Scottish. Claimed to be from "external fraud investigation" and somehow already knew my account details. Said they'd stopped an unauthorised online purchase in the name of Angela Smith for £600.18. Then he said they'd set up a new account for me and I'd have to log in and move money and direct debits over. That's when I clocked it was a scam and hung up. He rang back twice but then gave up.

Got a call from someone pretending to be Metro Bank after I replied to a dodgy DPD delivery text. Got a call from this number, but it turns out it’s pretending to be Metro Bank. If I’d stayed on the line a bit longer, I reckon they’d have managed to drain my account. I hung up and said I’d get in touch with Metro myself. When I called the bank, they confirmed it was a scam and that they never phoned me. Watch out everyone, these scammers have all your info and try to convince you they’re from the bank, but they definitely aren’t.

This morning, I received a rather dodgy message claiming I needed to update my direct debit info for my TV licence or face some hefty penalties. It was quite obvious it was a scam since I don’t even hold a TV licence. Out of curiosity, I typed the link they provided into my computer. Surprisingly, none of the buttons on the site seemed to function. I decided to enter some fake details, which then redirected me to a banking page requesting that I call a number to retrieve my purported 12-digit ID. I can’t stress this enough-IT’S A SCAM! Avoid calling that number at all costs!

Scammers are using caller ID spoofing to make it appear as though MetroBank is calling. Someone named SARAH LOUISE (or another British-sounding name) will claim to be from fraud prevention and ask for your online banking logins, saying they're just doing a 'verification'. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFO. It’s a total scam. I checked with MetroBank myself and they confirmed it’s happening. Honestly, I hope whoever’s behind this gets a proper telling off this festive season.
