I've been getting lots of calls from this firm asking for someone I've no idea about. Yesterday, a very polite young guy called and said he'd take my number off their list. However, today an Asian-accented man rang asking for the same stranger. I got quite annoyed and he just hung up on me. I checked the number using 1471, it showed as 02891872142, but it went straight to voicemail. Looks like it’s actually a poor bloke in Ireland getting bombarded with pissed off calls.

Called every day from a blank number, so I just let it ring out. Everyone I know has my mobile number, so if it’s important they either leave a voicemail or text. Sometimes I use 1471 to see who called if I’m curious. It’s quite depressing to think that someone’s forced to earn money this way instead of having a proper, decent job. Also, shouldn’t these calls, which seem like they’re fishing for info, be considered some sort of fraud attempt? Why is it that the police don’t step in to deal with it?

Like others have mentioned, this is definitely from Cabot, a debt collector working for Sky. From what I remember, I left Sky about 6 years back, so this feels like them just guessing. At the moment, I’m actually on a fresh contract with Sky but I’m not having anything to do with Cabot. When they asked me to verify my info, I just told them to jog on.
