Got a text from LCS earlier today, so I rang them to see who they were. They said I owe HMRC for an overpayment from 2016-17. I only gave my name, nothing else. Just spoke to HMRC and they confirmed that the company is genuine - apparently, it’s one of the three firms HMRC uses if they can’t reach you directly.

When I mentioned our number was once listed under X Directory (which seems pointless now), she said she’d take it off her records. Sadly, LCS aren't some fake outfit. They're a proper debt collection firm. They handle getting back money from things like overpaid tax credits and also deal with energy firms such as Scottish Power.

Got a call from this number on my home phone earlier today, 27th April, around 7 pm. A woman claimed she was from Leeds Consultancy Services. I asked her straight up what company she was representing and what it was all about, but she dodged the question and kept repeating that they "do lots of different things for various people." I wasn’t ready to answer her questions without knowing more. The whole thing felt quite fishy. Eventually, she said they’d be sending me some letters. I googled the company afterwards and found loads of complaints online - apparently, they’re some kind of shady debt collection outfit, harassing people who don’t owe them anything. Not impressed at all.
