This is LCS, they are proper debt collectors working for HMRC. If you get a call from them, best thing to do is ring up HMRC yourself to check if you actually owe anything. Sometimes it’s old stuff, like overpaid tax credits or something like that.

Got a call today, and the person on the other end knew my name but wouldn’t reveal the reason for the call unless I verified my details. I wasn’t having any of it since I had no clue who they were or what it was regarding. They claimed they’d sent me something in the post, which I knew wasn’t true, but said I’d have a look anyway. I’ve been getting letters claiming I owe an overpayment on my working tax credit from HMRC. I rang HMRC and spoke to a guy, explained about the letters from LES, and he put me through to another department after asking me to hold. Then another bloke came on and told me to ring ICS.
