Stacey from Compare My Mobile called me, trying to push an upgrade on my phone. Looks like they got my number from the O2 database. I reported it to the TPS but they said they can’t track down the company, despite their “best efforts” (not convinced at all).

Got a call from Jack about upgrading my EE phone. The first call came from a local number and sounded legit, so since I’m thinking about upgrading, I told him to call me back. When he rang again at the time he said, it was from this number which I looked up. Asking him to ring back definitely stopped me from getting into trouble and maybe losing some money.

Somebody called claiming to be Jack from O2's business upgrades dept. I am actually an O2 customer (though that's not hard to figure out) but I'm not eligible for an upgrade nor do I have a business plan. When I asked him about that, he sounded a bit flustered and then said he'd got the wrong details, before hanging up on me. Definitely a scam. This same number called me last week about my electricity provider too. I've tried blocking it on my phone but it still manages to get through.

Someone called pretending to be from O2, saying my phone contract was about to expire and I was eligible for an upgrade. That wasn’t true at all since I haven't had an O2 contract for over a year. When I pointed this out, the caller kept trying to guess who my current provider was. He guessed GiffGaff, probably because they use O2’s network. I actually use Tesco Mobile but didn’t say anything and just ended the call. The whole thing felt like a scam, as the bloke acted like he already had my account details and was authorised by my network to talk about it, which was obviously rubbish.

The caller said they were from O2, so I rang O2 myself to verify. They told me their sales team don’t do any outgoing sales calls and this was some third-party firm with no connection to O2 at all. This number gave me some deal offering to buy out my current business contract for nearly £2,000. If it sounds a bit too good to be real, chances are it isn’t. I ended up blocking their number.
