This number claimed to be from British Gas Limited and said they had access to my online account, charging me a lot of money. I got an email with my name, a British Gas ref number, and the correct bill amount. I rang the number listed (which was this one) and told them I'd already settled the bill. They kept pushing to get my bank details to verify their records. The whole automated setup sounded just like an official British Gas call centre. They were polite throughout and even admitted it was odd they were asking for bank info. I never gave any of my banking info. I’ve since contacted British Gas to report it as a phishing scam and am thinking about reporting it to the ICO as well.

Its not a call but a text I got pretending to be from British Gas, it even showed their name on the ID. That number is actually linked to British Gas. Like others have mentioned, it’s a payment line that’s automated, you’ll see it mentioned at the back of a British Gas bill. Since it’s just an automated payment line, there really shouldn’t be any calls coming from it. So if you get a call from that number, it’s likely a scam. I called British Gas at another number, 0870 6383494, to check about a call I got from 0333 202 9524. They told me that the call was from their official automated system, asking for a meter reading so they can send a proper bill instead of just an estimated one. They assured me this number is legit, not a scam. I get why people might be wary, but British Gas confirmed it’s genuine, so I’m happy with that.

There’s been 25,000 complaints and no one bats an eye. It’s not just a scam, it’s 25,000 tries at robbery, but that wouldn’t look good in the stats. So they just label it a scam and act like nothing’s wrong. Makes the crime numbers look a whole lot better!

Got a call from this number earlier today but no voicemail left. After reading other people's comments here and seeing they were asking for meter readings, I looked at my gas bill and found this number listed as their 24-hour automated service.

Just like everyone else said, these guys are total scammers! Please don't press any buttons or share your info. They save it and take money straight out of your account without asking. Stay clear!

Got a call from 03332029524 saying they were British Gas, asking for an electricity meter reading - but we don’t even use British Gas for our power! It was an automated voice, rang me yesterday and the day before. I didn’t press any keys or anything!

Received a call from this number around 3 o’clock this afternoon. It was a recorded message from a woman claiming to be from British Gas, urging me to press any key. I found it quite dodgy, so I hung up immediately.

Just got a call from 03332029524 too. Reported it to BT since they’re using automated calls, which a lot of folks these days just assume are scams. Blocked the number straight away and let BT know. Didn’t bother listening past the prompt to press a button before hanging up. I always block these robo-calls immediately. BT seriously needs to get their act together and have an actual person answering the phone.

Proper glad I gave it a quick check before picking up. So tired of all these annoying calls. I only bother answering if I recognise the number. Blocked it straight away.

10th October 2019 at 10:53 am. Rang me when I wasnt in, no voicemail left. This makes it the fifth dodgy call I've got in just four days. Usually it's about six calls back to back, then I get some quiet for a month or more. Some calls are dead silent, others are clearly nasty, so only one more and I'll be in for a break. They swap numbers all the time, but sometimes you get the same dodgy message popping up from different numbers. So boring.

Someone said they were from British Gas and told me to visit a website to give a meter reading to set up an account. I’m not even behind on any bills.
