So, this number sent me a message saying something about switching accounts from Santander to Capital One. The text said: Use OneTime Passcode: 294-282 to finish a payment to comgate.ie for £79.25. If you didn’t do this, they wanted me to ring 0330 220 4417. Bit suspicious if you ask me!

Avoid answering this number, it’s a total banking fraud. They claim there’s a charge of £299.99 on your ZARA account and ask you to ring them back. It’s just a trick to lure you into giving away your personal details. I had to double-check myself because it almost caught me out. I really worry about older folks or anyone who might not spot these scams so easily. This number’s been around for about four years, so obviously, they’ve conned loads of people and are still at it!

I’m employed at a call centre for one of the firms this number says it’s from. Honestly, nobody should be replying to these messages unless you’re like me and have a knack for wasting their time or have some sorta training in ethical hacking or something that helps you keep safe. Otherwise, don’t bother wasting your time or cash, just block ‘em. And whatever you do, don’t hand over any card info, even fake stuff.

Got a text claiming to be from HSBC, saying "Your One-Time Passcode is 598323 for a payment of 892.30GBP to AIRBNB - Ref: C96QR. If this wasn't you, call 0330 220 4417." Naively, I rang the number. The guy on the other end was quite polite, but something felt off, so I ended the call. Then I got in touch with HSBC customer support, who confirmed it was a scam. What’s weird is the text showed as coming from a number listed as HSBC UK, so I thought it was legit. Still feeling a bit puzzled about how that works.

Received a message that appeared to be from HSBC, providing a “one time code” for a transaction linked to AIR BnB. It urged me to call this number (03302204417) if the request wasn’t initiated by me. Upon calling, a chap named Simon picked up after some HSBC hold music. He informed me that someone was attempting to access my HSBC app using an iPhone 7 from Liverpool. He insisted I “deactivate” my account, which turned out to be a ruse, as he managed to connect his iPhone to my account. Consequently, rather than me receiving the OTP, it went to him. Total scam, beware!

I received a message that appeared to be from Santander, providing a "one-time code" for a transaction linked to AIR BnB. It instructed me to contact this particular number if the purchase wasn't mine. Instead, I decided to call the number on the back of my card. The representative informed me that the number wasn't affiliated with Santander, so I figured, why not have a bit of fun? I rang them up and wasted an exhausting 45 minutes of some increasingly frustrated operator's time, feigning dementia and tossing out random numbers. By the end, the now furious chap referred to me as a "benchode" and hung up on me. In summary - total scam.

They called me like 4 times in one hour, and I answered on the fourth ring. The bloke said he was from O2 and trying to give me a discount. I told him I couldn’t make out what he was saying, and he started swearing before slamming the phone down. I blocked the number, but then got another call from almost the same number, just the last digit was an 8.

This is a total con pretending to be from 02, don't share any info with them. They’ll try to tempt you with a 50% discount. The person had a strong Asian accent. I use the official app so I’m certain if it was really 02 they’d contact me properly. I kept telling them it was a scam and the woman tried pushing me, but I wasn’t having any of it. I basically pulled a Gemma Collins and said “boring,” then she just hung up. Before that, a guy named John called me.

I kept him talking for over 6 minutes, making him more annoyed each time until he just gave up and hung up. Said they were from O2 offering a 40% discount. They told me I'd get 2 texts and to share a code with them. The first text warned me to hang up if anyone asks for a code. I checked with O2 and found out these scammers get into peoples mobile accounts, change address info and order phones on the victims’ bills. They want the one-time code and then try to quiz you on your security questions. Why on earth would you give out security answers to someone who calls you? Total SCAM.
