Got two calls from the exact same number. I ignored the first one, missed the second but rang back just to check. When I answered, the bloke immediately went, "Hello Jon," like he’d just hit the jackpot or something. Doesn’t seem like a proper business would act that casual on a call. Plus, he sounded like he already had my info. I asked, “Sorry?” and he was all like, “Hi Jon, it’s (can’t remember the name) from Housing Repairs.” I just snapped, said “Whatever,” and hung up.

I got a call from a bloke who said he was Harry from the tax office about some PPI refund. At first, he rattled off my home address correctly, but then said I had to give my bank details if I wanted the money sent. I told him if he was really from HMRC, they’d already have my account info. He claimed he did but just needed to double check. Sensing it was a con, I asked him to get in touch through the official Government Gateway to prove it. He wouldn’t agree and just hung up when I called him out as a scammer.

Got a call from a man with an Indian accent who claimed he was from HMRC. He used some English name and asked if I was Mrs J, which I am. Then he said there was an issue with my taxes! I told him repeatedly that HMRC never ring people out of the blue, but he kept going on about a tax problem. Got a call from some Asian woman asking if I was Mr Rollison - seems that name’s a favourite with these scam calls. She said she was from some place called “I Smart” and offered to help me get back 20% of my PPI claim. Claimed she was based in Central London, but honestly, I reckon she was somewhere in Bangalore. I played along for a bit, told her I was on the run and never had a PPI claim or even paid taxes. Weirdly enough, she just hung up on me.

Here’s a nugget of wisdom from someone you’ve never met before: if you receive a call from a number you don’t recognise and the caller dares to drop the term “debt” into the conversation, you’d best cut the line immediately. Don’t hesitate for even a moment, as it’s likely you’ve got a scam artist on the other end!

A chap named Peter, who sounded like he was from India, claimed to be representing a credit debt organisation, but then abruptly ended the call. The next day, a lady with an Indian accent called me from a different number but the same type of organisation. Quite dodgy, if you ask me!
