I received a call flagged as an Announced Call on my BT Call Guardian. The chap on the line informed me that I was due a payout of over £6,000 related to my PPI claim. I made it clear that I hadn’t initiated any claim like that. He continued repeating the same message, which really gave me the impression he was reading from a script. After several exchanges, where I firmly reiterated that I had not made any claim, I decided to tell him I was blocking the number and promptly ended the call.

Claiming to be from Legal and General concerning PPI matters, this caller was quite insistent. When I hesitated to provide my banking information, he shifted his tactics and began probing for my mobile and tablet login info. He even inquired about my electricity provider. I decided to play along, providing him with a string of wrong details just to keep him engaged for as long as I could.
