My phone buzzed and I answered right away but there was just silence on the other end, then the caller cut off. This actually happened to me previously with another 0300 number. When I rang that number back, it ended up being the tax office. They told me it wasn’t them making these calls since they only contact people via official letters about safety issues, never by surprise phone calls.

I received a rather alarming call from someone claiming to be from HMRC, stating that there was a warrant issued for my daughter’s arrest. I tried to clarify that she’s merely a student, and that’s when they alleged that her identity had been compromised by another party. They insisted that I needed to pay a sum of money to prevent this supposed warrant from going forward. I firmly told them I wouldn’t part with my card details, especially as I had seen no official correspondence regarding any such matter. Their attitude was quite aggressive, yet after a lengthy exchange, they eventually hung up on me.
