I've just received a call that mirrors the one mentioned earlier. I've gone ahead and reported it to HMRC. The number was 0300 200 7705.

I received an automated call from this number claiming that I was implicated in some sort of HMRC fraud scheme. They gave me the option to press one to speak to a representative, or risk being visited by officials for arrest! Naturally, I pressed one, purely for amusement. An individual with an Indian accent then attempted to extort over £2000 from me, alleging I'd been convicted of tax evasion. To lend credibility to his ruse, he even placed a fake call from the HMRC’s official 0800 number, insisting I had missed important letters requiring my signature. When I inquired about settling the matter via my HMRC online account, he insisted that wasn’t an option. I firmly told him I wasn’t paying up, to which he ominously responded by saying they’d take legal action against me before abruptly disconnecting the call. So, take my advice: avoid this number at all costs! - caller: Scam artist!!
