I received a rather alarming call earlier today. The individual on the other end insisted that I must hit the number 1 straight away, or else I would face an arrest warrant in my name. He asserted he was representing HMRC, alleging that there was tax fraud linked to me. It was blatantly a scam, without a doubt. I've already reported the number to the appropriate authorities.

This number rang me up twice. I answered the first time thinking it was some official gov department. The bloke on the phone was really rude and kept accusing me of fraud, even threatening I'd get arrested and might lose my job. After I told him to get lost, they kept calling me back - even via WhatsApp video, like three times!

My daughter picked up the phone and the person asked to talk to the owner. She told them that I’m deaf, but they kept on talking like they didn’t get it. They seemed like they really wanted to speak to me. My daughter tried to find out who it was but ended up hanging up the call. They just don’t seem to understand the whole deaf thing.

When I answered, the call just dropped off suddenly. To avoid racking up costs if the line stays open, I usually switch my phone off or call someone I know right after hanging up the scam. That way I’m sure the dodgy call has ended. I do the same with my landline - I’ll ring a familiar number just to be safe.
