I gave the HMRC fraud line a ring just to be sure, and they said for certain it’s a scam. Seriously, just don’t pick up. I got the exact same message about going to court if I didn’t pay.

Got a call on Saturday warning me I’d be arrested if I didn’t hit 1. Who on earth leaves messages like that? It’s a right bit of scaremongering, can’t imagine how upsetting it would be for an elderly person hearing that. Proper nasty stuff.

Hey folks, just a heads up - don’t pick up if this number rings you. It’s a total scam that can mess up your iPhone, your internet and wifi, trust me. Honestly, I’d love to find the idiots running this (feels like some plot straight out of Breaking Bad) - I’m bald myself, and I’d sort them out with some serious “Taken”-style payback. Stay safe!

Got a call on 16/03/18 from someone saying they were with HMRC, total scam. Just hang up, don’t even think about pressing one. Not sure if pressing one hits you with a charge or if it’s just a trick to steal money later, but either way it’s dodgy as hell.
