someone rang me sayin they were from hmrc but sounded fishy to me. didn't really trust it at all and thought it might be a scam. so be careful if you get calls from that number!

Got a call from someone claiming I'd done tax evasion and telling me to press 1 or the coppers would come for me. Pretty sure if you did press 1, some muppet would try and nick your cash. I'm PAYE, so I don't often deal with HMRC directly, but I reckon they'd send a proper letter or something, not some dodgy recorded call with no real details. Plus, if you owed money, I’m sure they'd send debt collectors, not just call like this. Bet those scammers haven’t paid a penny of tax themselves!

So, today 8/03/19, got a call from this very number - same annoying thing everyone else is moaning about. Honestly, if these folks just found proper work like the rest of us, maybe we’d stop getting pestered!

I just had the same thing happen, got a call from HMRC but the number ended with 3696, pretty similar to what you mentioned.
