Just like many others here, I’m thinking maybe we should be ringing up MI5 on their terror number. What if we all claim they called us making threats about mass harm? If they’re gonna spin tales, why can’t we push back with our own yarns? Maybe then the authorities will take them out properly, which seems a better way to deal with it.

In the US, there was a big scam involving Indian call centres where a load of people pretended to be tax officials and tricked folks into giving them money. Around 500 from that centre got busted for the fraud.

Got a call from some bloke pretending to be from HMRC with a robotic voice. Sounded really menacing, saying if I didn’t hit 1, I’d get arrested for tax fraud or something. Total scam, DO NOT fall for it. I’ve already flagged the number. Honestly, it freaked me right out and I’m sure it’ll do the same to others, even if you know you’ve done nothing wrong. These scammers should be punished and whoever’s selling our info on has got to stop!

Like a few others mentioned, folks pretending to be from HMRC are really worrying. They actually had my name, which felt pretty creepy. When I answered, the woman put me on hold to “verify” something, so I quickly looked up the number. Once she returned, she just followed a set script and didn’t pay any attention when I told her she’d got the wrong person, so I just ended the call.

Pretty sure it was a scam, HMRC never ring you up like that. The person on the phone pretended to be from HMRC and even called herself an "officer". I played along for a bit, but when she said I had to pay using a prepaid card, I called her out on the scam and she just ended the call. Got a robocall claiming it was the HMRC saying it was urgent and to press 1 to talk to someone. Then a bloke answered saying I owed loads of tax money and if I didn’t pay up right away, he’d tell the cops. He got quite aggressive and pushy about the payment. When I handed the phone to my hubby, the guy just cut him off. This scam’s new, folks. Definitely something the HMRC and watchdogs should know about. Be careful out there!

Got a call on 11th March 2019 around 11:40, definitely not from the UK, some bloke claimed to be from HMRC’s fraud team. He told me there was a mistake in my tax return and I owed £349. Said there was a warrant out for my arrest if I didn’t pay up! Couldn’t give me any concrete info like dates or reference numbers. I told him I wasn’t paying a penny, and he threatened to inform the police who would then get in touch... still nothing. What a joke. Got a call threatening arrest for tax dodging if I didn’t stay on the line. The person, someone claiming to be from HMRC but speaking with a thick accent and poor English, said I owed more tax and would be arrested by the end of the day unless I paid up quick. Then he asked for my date of birth, saying it was for “data protection” (yeah right 😂). I told him there’s no way I’d give out personal info to a cold caller and I’d ring HMRC myself.
