I’m quite old and don't hear well, so all I caught was ‘tax evasion’, ‘ma’am’, and something about a warrant being out for my arrest soon. It was one of those recorded calls telling me to press 1 or some other key. I nearly had a heart attack, but then I managed to look up the number online and found out it was a total scam. It’s really nasty stuff, especially for folks living alone or with disabilities. I really hope there’s some way to stop these calls from happening to vulnerable people.

total rubbish scam, really bad one. it kicks off with a recorded voice claiming you’re involved in a tax fraud case, then tells you to press a number to talk with an "investigator". if you ignore it, they warn you’ll get fined 2 grand and even locked up. complete nonsense!

Just a heads up, if it's really HMRC, they'll send you a letter before giving you a ring. So if you get a call out of the blue, chances are it's not them.

I looked up the number because I suspected it was a scam, and turns out it was. They claimed I had to either pay £2600 or face court action. I knew I didn’t owe a penny, so told them I’d get in touch with HMRC myself, thinking it was dodgy, then I just ended the call.

I got a call from the number 03002003655, and the person said I was linked to some tax fraud and to hit 1 for more info. Seemed dodgy straight away, as HMRC would never phone with a robo message like that - they’d always write to you first. Definitely a scam!

So at 2.31pm I got a call asking me to ring back, and stupidly I did. This guy with an Asian accent said he was a fraud officer and claimed there was a police warrant for tax fraud from 2015 to 2017 against me. He threatened that if I didn’t answer his questions, the police would come and arrest me, and I'd lose the chance to ever make another call again. I just told him to go ahead and then hung up on him.
