You’ll never get a call from a genuine government or legal agency on your mobile or landline telling you that you owe debts, have messed up your tax details, or have committed fraud. If you do get calls or texts like that, just block the number straight away. Also, make sure you warn your family, mates, and especially older neighbours so they don’t get caught out by these tricks. It’s important we all do our part to stop these scams spreading.

Got a call from a supposed HMRC automated voice warning that I'd be arrested soon for fraud if I didn't press #1. Honestly, it was pretty intimidating but I'm just gonna hold off and see if they actually show up. Already told the cops about it though.

Got a robocall claiming to be HMRC accusing me of fraud and threatening arrest if I didn’t press 1. I hit 1 just to chat with whoever was on the other end and told them to never ring me again. As soon as I pressed 1, the call cut off straight away.

I didn’t answer the phone, but a mate of mine did. They ended up ringing the police, who told them it was definitely a scam. So don’t hand over any personal info. HMRC would never ring you up and threaten arrest like that.
