I missed the call on my phone, so I rang the number back from my home phone. Someone from the Environment Agency picked up. The man explained that the EA had been alerted about this number possibly being cloned.

Got a call from this number yesterday too, so I just blocked it.

Got a voicemail saying it was from HMRC about some tax fraud issue linked to me. Followed the prompts and hit 1 like they told me, which then put me through to a call centre. A lady answered, said she was from HMRC too and asked how she could assist. I told her I’d received their call and wanted to know what it was about. Then she asked for my name, and when I wouldn’t say, she just ended the call. Pretty sure it’s a total scam!

This number just rang me up. It was one of those automated messages saying I had to press 1 or else I’d be arrested for tax fraud. I figured it’s dodgy, but out of curiosity, I pressed 1 to see what might happen. A bloke with a really thick accent came on the line, but the connection was awful. He asked what I wanted, so I told him I was just trying to find out what the call concerned. Then he asked me who I was, and I ended the call right there.

I got a call telling me to press one or I’d get arrested, sounded like a total scam. I double-checked with the police and they confirmed it was a scam. Turns out the number belongs to the Environmental Agency, which is dealing with some issues with their phone lines right now and are investigating the problem.

Got a robo call claiming I’m being accused of tax fraud and telling me to press 1 to speak to someone. Total scam if you ask me.

On the 26th of April 2019, just after 4pm, this phone number gave me a ring. There was a recorded voice - a deep, quite harsh male tone - claiming to be from HMRC. The message had a threatening vibe saying that a fraud case was opened against me and if I didn't press 1 I could face arrest soon. I heard the whole thing, hung up straight away and made sure to block the number afterwards.

I let the call go to voicemail and caught the tail end of a message that warned if I didn’t press 1 and the call didn’t go through, a warrant would be issued for my arrest pretty soon. The number was unknown and only part of the message got recorded.

received a voicemail warning me it was from the customs fraud dept and someone was using my identity. they said if i didnt press 1 to fix it, the cops would show up to arrest me. the number that called was 0300 200 3138. suspicious much!

That number is definitely dodgy. I spent ages, like two hours, trying to get through to HMRC using their official contact details to check if it was legit or if there was anything I should be worried about - turns out it wasn’t theirs at all. The upside is you really don’t have to bother with calls from numbers not listed on the official .gov site for HMRC. The downside is whoever’s behind it has probably already gotten some of your personal details off the internet somehow, so expect more scams or ploys trying to nick your info in the next few weeks since your data is likely being passed around dodgy folks. The other bit of good news though is if you just stop replying and ignore them, the calls and attempts tend to die down after a while.
